I'm just....sick of hearing fuccaz yammer on about ish. It's depressing enough as it is. I'm just lucky I can actually go into work and be around real people. A lot can't right now.

I'm lucky, in that respect. I can still be around people. And it helps quite a lot, tbh. People being around really helps in times like this and luckily my personality functions best in times like this.

I'm with you there. I am thankful that this situation has made me realise I do not want to work from home. I was jealous of my friend who has worked from home every day since March. After a few weeks, not any more. It might be down to the job though. Teaching from home is a right pain. You work twice as hard to be half as effective, basically.

Largely being devil's advocate here but I don't think the ability to debate has lessened on here, it's more that when it comes to a particular brand of politics there's just a lot less people who agree otherwise Charles would be handing out bans like party favours

exactly you can post what views you like but its our right to disagree with those views shutting down this sort of conversation would be the 1984 style censorship that jazzfunk keeps talking about.

Actions have consequences, Trumps consequence was that he went to far and mobilized his user base to attack the wheels of democracy in his own country. He got his toys taken away form him as the people that owned those toys have rules and a code of conduct that you have to abide by. Trump has had far more leniency than anyone else would get on the same platform. he used twitter as an official communication channel and this left twitter with their hands tied people not in his positions of power and influence would have been banned by twitter long ago for posting one tenth of the **** he did.

As a mod, we actually dislike banning people (not spammers etc.).
As a forum member, I definitely like discussion and I like having my mind changed or enlightened.
As a person, I'm really aware of not being in an echo chamber.

After the election where the DUP and Conservatives teamed up, I couldn't understand how, when everyone was slating them.
I then learned about the bubble and have actively kept friends with opposing opinions to mine and even pop into the comments section on The Metro *shudder*, to see what other people are thinking. I normally hate it, but feel it has to be done.

I think everybody has a line and I guess yours is a lot further away from mine.
Should people be able to post porn on here? No - it's in the rules.
Should Cbeebies show uncut gory horror films?
Should neo-Nazis be able to spout anti-Semitic death threats on their own little Facebook groups?
Should Trump be allowed to say whatever he likes without being checked?

Their defiantly seems to be a movement to censor some ridiculous things most recently "blind playthroughs" on twitch being offensive to the blind really dose feel like someone on the far left who isn't blind getting upset on someone else's behalf. This sort of stuff really plays in to the extreme of the the far right hands as it gives them fuel to the "their trying to ban Christmas brigade" and marginalizes actual issues.

when it comes down to it you cant take the extreme of both sides as a representation of that party's views as 9 times out of ten the extreme isn't the mainstream views that each side hold.

Except just like trying to ban Christmas, this is usually nonsense. Twitch hasn't censored blind playthroughs. It has changed the term to 'first playthrough'. Nothing more. The exact same thing remains. And they didn't do it because of someone on the far left who isn't blind. They did it in response to gamers with disabilities.

So yeah, that's one extreme - disabled gamers just preferring that maybe people carry on and do exactly what they are doing but maybe they could use a different term if it's okay? And the other extreme are people saying black people shouldn't exist, gay people should be outlawed and so on. If you try to both sides this thing, if you genuinely believe that maybe not using a term is the same as the other stuff, that shows a huge amount about where you sit and what you find acceptable. So I'd reconsider the both sides thing.

It is kind of nuts, and somewhat horrifying, that this 'censorship' discussion, which is never applied to anything nice - it's basically people wanting the right to be the lowest form of themselves that they can be - garners more discussion and more outrage than actual real stuff.

Edit: Actually this previous paragraph is wrong because nobody ever actually removes the right for people to be the lowest forms of themselves. What they want is all freedom from consequences. Which is not how the world works on any level and so infantile to expect it.
