Famous last words but it feels like in 2020 it surely can't be the case that Trump rises in popularity compared to 2016. If he won by such a small margin then surely the chances of failing to secure a second term are strong?
I know the impeachment hasn't nudged the public opinion needle too much but the thing with it is that it blatantly wasn't a witch hunt, his guilt is all too clear and for things far-far worse than Clinton met with. Whilst the Democrats might be wary that he isn't going to be voted out of office it surely has to be such an obvious campaign message to highlight the abundantly clear corruption by Trump and the Senate Republicans so that the all important fence sitting swing voters are swayed against repeating the last mistake.

The situation in the US is very different to that in the UK's recent election, they're not really comparable - Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 by a considerable margin and scraped by in the electoral college. His approval rating remains the lowest of nearly any previous president since that's been recorded and is not popular outside of his core loyalists.
It only needs a tiny swing of voters to change things in 2020, but what the Democrats can't afford to do is blinker themselves into thinking it's a shoe-in as they did in 2016 and they must target those swing states they ignored to their peril in the last election.

But that was to 'Get Brexit Done'
America's great again already isn't it?
In what could be a beautiful move, Nancy Pelosi is floating the idea of suspending the Senate Trial of Donald Trump. She has argued that the trial should only proceed once the Senate can be sure to deliver a fair trial which is currently off the table with Republican Senators already having spoken out saying they'll reject the case outright.
However, delaying the trial also creates time for further articles of impeachment to be drawn and also decreases the chances that Trump will be able to go into the election campaigning being able to say he's been acquitted of the charges. I'd be curious to know how long the Democrats could tie up the trial without it going to the Senate given how much Republican opposers have complained about the process being rushed.

I mean, I'm happy if this is resolved peacefully, but he once again showed that he acts before he thinks.Last edited by briareos_kerensky; 09-01-2020, 06:29.

And as you point out, it didn't have to be this way, Trump has certainly made things far more volalite due to his utter ignorance.Last edited by MartyG; 09-01-2020, 07:36.

The US WANTS the middle east in perpetual turmoil and war, they cant have the Arab nations unifying against the west and them, thats the bottom line here, also bad for business. Not that the middle east probably would anyway because of the Religious divide there, but still, cant be having make friends now.
