The whole thing was about keeping the Tory party together, that's why there was a referendum in the first place, so the fiasco is very much owned by the Tories.
You do have to ask though, why if Corbyn being involved now is such an issue, haven't the 14 cabinet ministers who want a no deal brexit instead resigned yet? Because It's a trap! - the only reason to involve others now is to find a patsy to carry the blame for a no deal brexit (which is actually what the majority of the conservative party members want).Last edited by MartyG; 03-04-2019, 10:48.

May will be meeting with Sturgeon as well today. Presumably anything the SNP says it will support with carry a second ref as a condition
Apparently though she's still angling towards having the withdrawal agreement complete by 22 May which means she cannot entertain anything like a second referendum as you can't act upon the WA and then do a referendum as you'll have left. You don't leave, potentially reverse the decision then reapply.
Ergo, she must be offering to soften something within the existing deal - but is limited as the EU don't want changes to it and her own party will collapse. In short... it'll be another wasted day.

As was said quite early on, it shouldn't have been a party-based issue. I think an independent commission should've been set up to work out all the details, which would've worked at it until we either got a deal or crashed out.
That being said, the main reason for this is that I think May should've appointed Boris Jonson, as the most senior figure of the Tory government who was also a senior face of Leave, to handle this. He pushed for it, he should have to fix it.

Whips are said to be telling MP's they don't need to come in on Friday meaning a fourth vote is off the cards this week. May is reported to be trying to sell Corbyn on supporting an arrangement that would be a customs union in all but name - i.e doomed

Juncker has rejected Mays request to extend A50
A third round of indicative votes has also been voted against whilst Corbyn starts to see trouble brew in Labour over his attempts to avoid a second referendum.
Essentially, No Deal is beginning to lock in for next week as hardly any options remain in play and it is genuinely all because of the political selfishness of two individuals

Corbyn says talks went well and there will be more of them.
Better crack on given both party's disagree strongly with the talks and there's only 5 working days till Brexit
But also - Now Unison are adding to the growing sea of voices pushing against Corbyn, demanding he enforce a second referendum is a condition of any form of agreement with May

Corbyn is downplaying the progress of today's meeting but by the sounds the Labour party is gearing itself up for war with him over his continued dodging of a second referendum. The implosion of Labour may not be far behind that of the Conservatives.
