Covid cases in the UK have been on the rise for the last four days now and the highest numbers they're been for a week. The government did some fandangling of how it's reporting the positive cases (which reduced it by nearly 30,000 on the 1st July).
Due to this, I don't believe we're comparing like-with-like prior to 1st July where the daily numbers are a bit higher - given that R hasn't changed much, I'd suggest the numbers haven't actually dropped as much as smaller numbers are indicating, just that the new method of counting makes them look better, well, until they started to go up again at least.
The columns here (L -> R excluding the 0 and div/0) are date, accumulative number positive, accumulative number of deaths, percentage of deaths to confirmed positive, daily increase deaths, daily increase positive.
The zero column used to be the accumulative of unique individuals tested, a figure that stopped being reported which the government initially said was because it was trying to get an accurate number. The real reason is because this figure is massively massively smaller than the number of test kits sent out (which is the "number of tests" number they release). It isn't actually the number of people that have been tested and it's estimated 25% of these aren't actually returned, yet counted as tests anyway,Last edited by MartyG; 09-07-2020, 14:14.

Whatever C-19 is doing its the number of overall deaths above the weekly norm that always tells the real, tragic story. Those figures don't lie.
All figures specifically concerning C-19 are open to question as the ONS suggests themselves, if obliquely, in that the number of deaths reported as C-19 deaths are those where it is actually mentioned on the death certificate.
That can just be a testing/reporting matter and there could well be deaths from 'flu' and pneumonia that are being recorded as C-19 deaths because its mentioned on the death certificate. Visa versa too, C-19 deaths not being recorded because the patient wasn't tested before they died and the cause is 'only' reported as the catch all pneumonia or 'flu'.
I'm certain that happens all the time; the doctors often don't know for sure what the patient died of and so it gets reported just as pneumonia. I have had direct experience of that myself.

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-number-increases-england-lockdown-relaxed-eased-124022973.htmlThe government has used R to assess whether the epidemic is in decline in the country or increasing.
The R rating is hitting 1 and rising just days since the last round of lockdown easing
