57,725 new cases today setting another new record. Over the course of the last 7 days confirmed cases are up an average of 34.8%, deaths are up 20.2%, hospitalisations are up 19.7% and tests conducted are up... I kid, they're down by 15.8% (nearly half a million)
Exclusive: lifesaving surgery to be postponed in capital as cases top 57,000, while other parts of UK brace for effects of Christmas Day mixing
Additionally, cancer operations across London may be cancelled due to the extent of COVID patients flooding in.
Hospitals across the UK have now passed the Frist Wave peak in terms of people in hospital with the expectation that numbers will rise across the board next week once the Xmas mingling effect really kicks in. The director for Public Health in Blackburn has said the decision on whether to impose a new lockdown needs to be made next week and not when suits the South East.Last edited by Neon Ignition; 02-01-2021, 21:21.

A poll conducted of 22,000 over the course of December has suggested that after his first year of power Boris Johnson could be on course to lose just over 80 seats in the 2024 General Election including his own with both Conservatives and Labour moving more and more toward a dead heat with the SNP has the deciding party.

Latest updates: Boris Johnson says all schools in England must close; UK sees new record high of 58,784 cases and 407 deaths
As Boris Johnson reiterates that tougher measures are definitely on the way and that he expects the public both accept that and will be fine with it, Jeremy Hunt posts a long list of tweets stating his case that measures need to come in place immediately for at least three months to ride out till vaccinations reach a suitable level for the most vulnerable.
The first link lists the options on the table but all are very minimal wranglings around the same thing, a lockdown of the same scale as Lockdown 01. Hancock has already hinted that all remaining non-Tier 4 areas will soon be placed into that Tier as the overall state of the current wave of the virus is now surpassing the original wave.
Hancock has also expressed concerns about the new South African third variant of COVID-19 as it may be the case that the vaccines aren't as effective against that variant.

I'm not fine with it, we've spent most of the year around here being effectively grounded while they get everything sorted and instead they left London completely open during the busiest period of the year and accepted an outside strain of the virus in by freely letting anyone access the country with no tests or checks. They should have been using the time to build up hospital capacity, have vaccine manufacturing plants ready to go, arrange for teaching to be done in properly social distanced settings. Meanwhile I'm meant to be happy that eventually I can qualify for the world's least effective vaccine (probably in a decade or so). This country sucks.

Astrazeneca thinks there may be short term immunity from a single dose, but there's simply no data to determine whether it'll be effective for 12 weeks (and let's face it, likely to be delayed further) until a booster jab is done.

The scale of failure is epic at this point, it only takes a glance at the handling of testing to know how vaccination will pan out. It amazes me anyone would entertain the notion that by Easter COVID will be sorted. 2021 is very much 2020: Part Two

Scotland will enter full lockdown from midnight tonight inclusive of a stay at home order. Wales is also expected to continue its lockdown into next month.
