Any Cigar Smokers in the House?

In my infinite wisdom, I'm deciding to do the exact opposite of what I should be doing and looking at taking up smoking. I know.

I've had a love hate relationship with the hobby all my life. Generally, I have never been a smoker but smoked socially throughout my 20's and liked the feeling but never loved it. However, I've had a few cigars in my life and loved them. Culminating in my old boss taking me out to a Cigar bar in the US whilst at our San Francisco office, introducing me to decent Cigars and more importantly, how to smoke.

The last time I smoked a Cigar was around 3 years ago but whenever I walk past someone smoking one or think of it, I love the smell and feeling of relaxation they gave me. However, I'm fully aware how ****ing dangerous smoking is so my current plan is to pick up the gadgets I need (Humidor, cutter etc.) and once the Humidor is prepared, I'll buy 3 small boxes of Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2, Cohiba Siglo I and Montecristo No. 2 then start my little odyssey... By dying of lung cancer, I'm sure!

I have no plans of going in deep and imagine I'll smoke once every few months, but I've started to really desire smoking a Cigar again and fancy having my own stash. I've always liked Cohiba and the Siglo I is the one I smoked in the US and I've read that the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 is a fantastic starter cigar and the Montecristo No. 2 is one of the best ever made. So buying a small box of each will keep me going for a year!

Anyone else smoke Cigars here and have any recommendations? Or if anyone wants to scream what the **** am I doing, I'll take some of that too!

I used to smoke about three Hamlets per day but those huge, King Edward basts make me wanna spew (the smoke is too pungent for me)!

But good luck with the cigars, I tip my hat to you and would find it interesting to hear more. Anyhow, if James Woods and Arnie do it, it's gotta be cooooool.

Did you ever try them ones that came in the crimson n' white boxes, they used to have white plastic tips with sugar on? Always thought they were cool in the 90s.

        Also remember Death cigarettes, lol.

Are you not thinking of candy cigarettes with a football card, and a tray that you used to blow out the end, when empty?

Cohibas for me. All the way. I've smoked a few different Montecristos and invariably found them disappointing.

But I'm not overly adventurous, or knowledgeable, and tbh, my top two recommendations are very much the classics...

The Cohiba Coronas Especiales cigar is rich and elegant with a floral aroma. A Laguito No.2 cigar with a distinctive pigtail cap, this cigar was a favourite of Cuban higher-ups before it was marketed internationally for the first time in 1982. The strong taste of tobacco is prominent and does not mask the hints of coffee, vanilla and cocoa. This cigar is one to be left in your humidor for a while as it ages brilliantly.

The Cohiba Esplendidos cigar is truly the Father of Cubans. These cigars get better with age, becoming fuller and the earthy aroma growing stronger to bring out the fruity tastes.

Thanks! I've been eyeing up buying my own Cigars for years but never got round to it. Ever tried any yourself, aside from the Hamlets?

Nice! I've liked the Cohibas since trying the Siglo I but have been advised to not go in do strong with more hardcore Cigars to start with. They look great though, do you have a few on the go at any one time opr buy them in as you fancy them?

I'm now picturing your Freezer full of Cigars, rather than bags of Peas.

Love me a Cohiba but haven't had one in the longest time.

Wanted to splurge on a proper humidor set a while back but those plans got put on ice.

I keep a little stash as I have a couple of humidors (and people who know a lot more about Cohibas than me say that most age very well). One somewhat okish Indian rosewood affair, lined with cedar, that holds 30-40, and some budget cedar one that is actually really quite good but only holds 15-20 (more a travel one really, but it keeps the Especiales well).

I'm yearning for one now. Plus I've just had to order a couple of Siglos and a couple of Piramides Extra.

I really should venture away from Cohibas more haha!

You should totally get back on that if you can! What humidor are you thinking of? I was looking at a ST Dupont one but can't justify it, especially as they hold 100 Cigars or so, which I clearly won't need! Currently looking at this one.

Sounds like a great setup you have? How have you found your Humidors? I've not used one before but have been watching videos to look after one and how to set it up. My one concern is where to put the Humidor, out of direct sunlight but in a nice place to grab.

Also, you use a lighter for lighting up or matches? I was looking at the ST Dupont Maxi Jets but feel I like the idea of a nice match over a gas lighter.

It does me fine, for the 10 or so I have a year.

I got the small one just to dabble many years ago, and the larger one came from a friend's dad who passed away.

Every few weeks I top up with distilled water if needed, rotate the cigars, that's it really. Occasionally check the seals with a piece of paper (how easily does it pull out of the closed case). I keep them in a cabinet out of the sun, I'm not worried about having them on display. (Some humidors are art in themsleves haha.)

I use matches, any of the long ones where the wood isn't soaked in chemicals
                              https://www.havanahouse.co.uk/produc...cigar-matches/ and so on.
