Lol I like to be short and to the point

To be honest I have wanted to retrain as a teacher for more years than I can remember but financial situation means I can't take the pay cut to train, plus my own school grades means I need to do plenty of prep work before I could even apply & lastly my age is against me...who wants to take on a new teacher in their mid 40's

I'd also only consider doing junior school as cutmymilk says I 100% could not deal with teenagers lol

It's not because I think it would be great having time off...it's because I love seeing how much Chloe has grown & achieved since she has been at school & I'd love to have an impact on a child's life & help them grow, can't imagine anything more rewarding

I can totally imagine. It’s far from ideal for anyone. And honestly, as difficult as it is here at home, I don’t want my kids going out and getting covid and bringing it home. That would be way worse. There is no ideal scenario right now. We’re in a pandemic. This isn’t anybody’s first choice of situation.

Yeah complain away it's allowed.. I usually don't complain and just get on with it, after all we made these kids, they're our responsibility!... But fark me, the last few weeks I've been surviving on 5 hours sleep, coffee and whisky plus the occasional gaming session before it all kicks off again.

It's total groundhog day stuff right now.

Plus teachers, I've total respect for them and our kids teacher's have been great through all this. There's some real heroes out there just doing they can and helping where it's needed. But even so it's tough going and if you're one of those families who've yet to experience illness or death relating to this whole situation then count yourself as lucky... It's a real crap situation all round.

Yes, they are our responsibility but...no one has kids thinking they will be around them 24/7!

Johnsons Lockdown 03 Exit plan is said to focus on schools reopening from 08 followed by relaxed outdoors socialising rules three weeks later. School sports and activities will also be permitted and the furlough scheme will likely be extended till Autumn 2021. Care homes will also be allowed to permit restricted rules visits. During April the aim is to permit non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality to reopen, in May sports and music events can begin again.

Some sectors such as nightclubs etc, international travel and home working will remain indefinitely held within the current rules and guidance. There will also be no regional tiers anymore, the entire of England will have the same rules imposed. Scotland, Ireland and Wales will continue as they currently do per their devolved leaders guidance.

In essence it feels like the risk of reversing any relaxed measures or having a Lockdown 04 of some sort mostly now rests on the impact school reopenings have versus the pace of vaccine distribution.

As someone married to a teacher, I can also confirm educating during lockdown has been a massive undertaking.

For a start, it's not like schools have been invested in to make this happen, but also don't forget the schools were in for one day, before Johnson listened to experts and closed them again, leaving schools and parents to suddenly switch to online learning.

My wife has been prepping, recording, delivering and marking lessons every day, usually up to midnight.

I suspect when this is all over, the Government will quietly increase the retirement age for teachers again, so you'll be expected to be teaching a full classroom of kids into your 70s.

This is lunacy right? We've been in lockdown 1.5 months since Jan 4th and the R rate is somewhere between 0.6 and 0.9 depending on where you live. 0.9!!!! I mean, that's basically saying "The current death rate is where we want to be." Why not wait till it's 0.1 or something?

But what are people going to do once they've completed Netflix?

If they extend furlough until the autumn I'm going to go crazy. Jumping on Reed / Indeed right now.

I know the expression is "work to live" not "live to work" but work is a art of my identity. Maybe 10 or 1t years ago I wouldn't mind being paid by the government to not go to work but I'm starting to climb the walls.

Yep. And you still have idiots (including education ministers) hinting that she should give up half of her holidays to teach for free.

The oldest person in my class when I was doing my education degree (required here) was 59.

We currently have a student teacher in her 40s too. She is very good and willing to take advice from people younger than her. That is the key, I think. And getting over the first few years which are the hardest and with the lowest pay. We have had a few science teachers recently who were older and didn't get past year 1.

Because capitalism trumps money over people.
