Indian variant cases are up 160% in the last week
As the UK plans to expand the travel green list WHO has warned travel should be avoided
The Indian variant is doubling every 5 days, the Kent variant that caused the second wave doubled every 2 weeks
The good news is that the AstraZeneca vaccine appears to work against the variant, the bad news is that daily case numbers are once again closing in on topping 3,000 in a day again
"It's all just a little bit of history repeating"

There have been some dramatic developments as Dominic Cummings continues to give evidence - here's the headlines:
Dominic Cummings says the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, should have been fired for "lying" about preparedness to deal with the virus and whether people were getting the treatment they need
He says Hancock tried to blame PPE shortages on Simon Stevens, the head of NHS England, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak
The prime minister was more concerned about the economic damage because he did not think the virus was "the big danger"
Reports that Rishi Sunak put the breaks on a lockdown are "completely wrong"
A political system that gives people a choice between Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson is "terribly wrong" and creates a situation of "lions led by donkeys"
There was chaotic decision making inside No 10, like "an out of control movie"
He says on Friday 13 March a senior official Deputy Cabinet Secretary Helen Macnamara came to him and said, “I think we are absolutely f***ed. I think this country is heading for a disaster. I think we are going to kill thousands of people”
He says Covid planning meetings were derailed by dealings with Trump, and the PM's girlfriend wanting the No 10 press office to deal with media reports over the PM's dog
Cummings says the PM regarded Covid as a "scare story" and wanted to be injected on TV
He says ministers, officials and advisers "fell disastrously short" and claims of preparedness were "completely hollow"

So far:
-Cummings has released a photo of the Tories first COVID planning board which leans to herd immunity and literally has the question 'who do we not save?' written on it
-Cummings apologised for not scrutinising Hancock's pandemic plans more closely saying if he had then he'd have known how hollow they were
-Claimed that in February 2020 when the pandemic was beginning to ramp up and take hold Johnson took a two week holiday
-Suggested that Johnson raised the idea of injecting himself with COVID to reassure the public that it wasn't serious
-He says the decision that a lockdown was needed was arrived at on 14 March, no plan for one existed though
-He says Hancock should have been fired multiple times for lying to both ministers and the public
-He says that the last General Election gave people a choice between Johnson and Corbyn shows that things have gone horribly wrong in the UK as there are many, many other better qualified leaders available than either of them

It's definitely interesting to watch.
I was surprised he actually apologised for the unnecessary deaths. Fair play.
However, he's writing a narrative that he was the only grown-up in the room in every meeting and everyone ignored his heroic suggestions or listened to them too late.
He's criticised a lot of people and suggested Matt Hancock should have been fired 15 to 20 times, but you have to ask what will come of all this?

Problem here is that Cummings has form of lying through his teeth to rewrite history. For example he claimed he predicted something in an old blog, but it turns out the internet archive proved he'd altered the old blog after the event to make it look like he was prescient..... And everyone knows he lied about needing an eye test. I can't suddenly trust the things he's saying now just because they match my bias.
