A near 20,000 jump in a week - last week I guesstimated 44,000 peak which was way off the mark. Time to be more ambitious:
Guesstimate for next week: 71,000 new cases per day

Yeah. Pushing 100,000 per day by next weekend. With deaths increasing too.

In an utterly unsurprising twist both Johnson and Sunak have suddenly decided that the rules don't apply to them and neither will be isolating despite their contact with Javid and being notified to via Test and Trace.

Some choice quotes on the matter:

Dr Ellie Cannon, an NHS GP and Mail on Sunday columnist, has criticised the government after it was announced that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak do not have to isolate after being pinged by the NHS test and trace app.
She wrote on Twitter:

Perhaps the lowest point for me was watching the funeral prayers of an acquaintance who died in particularly difficult circumstances...
Their own child, mourning their parent’s sudden death, was not allowed in the place of worship with family because they were contact isolating from school.
No-one found special pilot schemes for them.

It is one rule for them and another rule for everyone else. How about the school teachers, transport workers and health workers getting a chance to be part of this test pilot or is it only for the privileged few?
People have stuck to the rules and done the right thing, Boris Johnson is taking them for granted.


deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner has criticised the government, saying they are “fraudsters and grifters conning the public”.

Employers aren’t going to be able to get their employees to self-isolate after this, and worse, some unscrupulous employers are even going to prohibit well-meaning employees from isolating when they need to.

Can anyone say deliberately engineered third wave? Because this is what it is.

And people on here were defending him breaking his own government's rules on staying local during restrictions/lockdown to travel across the capital (by chauffeur) to cycle at the Olympic Park.
