An education report has accused Tory MPs of fuelling a culture war within the education system which says working class white children are being neglected by the system and that illegal terms such as 'white privilege' is being deployed. Whilst the Government says poverty is the driving force in school performance differences between social classes the report disagrees.
It says that the concept of white privilege has leant to young white students being neglected as 'an industry' has emerged surrounding the provision of support for dis-advantaged non-white students providing support that isn't available to white students. The Government has been accused of attempting to sweep the issue under the carpet.
Not even the reports own board agrees on the contents of the report itself, in discussion on the radio this morning the debate largely attempted to square the situation more simply as:
White privilege exists and unquestionably has a major impact on the fortunes and suppression of many people. The era of greater focus on minority support has led to many initiatives and drives to rectify this. However, only X amount of opportunities exist and whilst having many benefits due to their race young white students are still subject to social class discrimination.
As the education and work spaces aim to showcase their progressive new approaches in laser focusing on minorities, is it true that another problem is being allowed to develop of a 'lost' white race generation of young people?
