I mean, to be clear, it's not so much it understands them - it does, to some degree - but it's very good at sounding like it does.

What I guess I mean is that earlier comment about "having a discussion about particle physics with ChatGPT" - it knows a lot about topics like that, and if you converse with it, it's amazing what it'll come back with. But it's mainly that it knows enough, with all the terminology etc., so sound like an expert on the subject without actually having proper expertise.

There's an opposite problem with this that's no less worrying - that if you're a content creator who doesn't want to use AI, you're soon going to be competing with everyone who does. Art is expensive, and we all know that pictures on the internet get faaaar more engagement than words.

With a NovelAI subscription, if you're a small-time creator, previously, unless you were specifically an artist, you couldn't "jump on the latest meme trend" with an illustration of your characters. But with AI, now, tons of people can, and they soak up all that engagement.

Some of us are already seeing it, and we're left holding our desire to not screw over all our artist friends while also not being able to do much about it.

Could you let me know what software that is, please? If it really works I could recommend our higher-ups get a subscription.

Yep. I think 'creative work' pretty much wasn't on most people's bingo cars for 'Jobs most likely to be replaced by AI in the near future'. And yet within a few short months, it's become not just a possibility, but a reality.

I've got a new potential project coming up and I've already anxiously plugged the brief into ChatGPT to see how well it does. Not that great, right now...but not totally terrible either.

My business has its second collaboration beer going in to can and keg on Monday, made with fantastic Scottish Brewery Overtone for our beer festival, The Big Swally. No messing about this time, it's an 8% double IPA. We have 1000 people attending it next week with a great line up of breweries, it's going to be brilliant. So chuffed about this for us, our friends and customers.

For the non Scots among you, a big swally is basically the same as saying you're going on a big sesh.

We use GPTZero, but the other one is made by our in-house IT as most of our systems are bespoke.

                    Ha, I didn't know that!

Going to be coming up at Easter again, so I'll see if I can wangle another visit.

ChatGPT is literally an expert system. Like expert systems of old, except this one is an expert on almost everything. It’s truly terrifying. If AI has plateaued at this point we’re probably ok but if this is the start of that technology curve we are ****ed.

The implausibly named sci-fi/fantasy dude Vernor Vinge christened it the 'technological singularity' years ago, as I'm sure you know. Meaning that point at which machines become even the slightest fraction more freely intelligent than humans. After which point, all bets are off. In other words, I'm glad to be old.

I’m really looking forward to The Big Swally and trying the new collab next week. Overtone do great stuff. I’m coming through straight off nightshift so can’t foresee any problems with combining strong beer and lack of sleep…
