    BPX059: It'll Be Alt-Right on the Night

This year we've already seen Trump come all too close to retaining control of the White House. Although the current mess in Afghanistan is essentially another failure of Trump's, we've also seen Biden pour fuel on the situation due to an increased emphasis being placed on an America First mentality that the prior four years have developed due to voters taking a much stronger right wing stance that the Democrats need to appeal to in order to remain competitive.

At home we have a long running Government that is openly corrupt. Led by a Prime Minister who is clearly immoral and inept in equal measure leading to the public being worse off, the country lurching from crisis to crisis and literally resulting in tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths. Yet, sustained peak popularity endures for the party and their left based opposition remains completely ineffective as competition to them.

Alt-Right parties keep gaining grounds in countries such as Italy and France whilst modern dictatorships are being allowed to develop and thrive in China and Russia.

The right is surging and the rise of COVID has fed a sense of nations looking out for their own interests more which will be hard to shake for a long time.

It's often said that the old lean to the right and the young to the left but we're not living in a left leaning utopia due to right wing oldies dying off, clearly the minds of many change as time goes on. The left stance rivalry with the right:

A battle current events have led to a rise of right wing thinking?
Or were the left wing, progressive march years a media fronted lie masking that things never really changed much?

What fuels right wing popularity and how can it be pulled away from its current, politically and morally bankrupt state?

I mean, to some degree. People say the country has moved right (and I don't disagree, though I'd debate how much) but sometimes they say that as if to suggest the country was ever "left".

I mean Blair/Brown's government might've been further left than the present Tory one, but they certainly weren't "far-left". People call Blair a centrist for a reason.

That being said, let's not debate what is left and what isn't, because that's a rabbit hole that serves no purpose.

Easy answer to that one - there's nothing Left, the Tories have already sold it all off

England has a history of voting to the Right, with a rare dip into middle left for short periods.
There are many technical reasons, but socially I think England believes Right leaning parties 'get stuff done' and 'protect your money' which is BS.
More recently I think decades of protests and complaints falling on deaf ears has led us in to a corner of apathy. The Tories can be more right wing because we've just stopped caring and believing we can do anything about it. It's the perfect storm.

My brother lives in Hungary and he's desperately trying to move to Germany because Hungary is very quickly moving to hard right totalitarian state.
There are a number of reasons, but he says that it's a response to the impression places like the US, UK and others are also moving to the right, and they want to toughen up and not be left behind. Quite an interesting theory.
