The 2050 Net Zero target looks likely to be one of the first casualties regardless of who wins the leadership race
(1) Tory leadership live: Mordaunt says only she can beat Labour as Sunak says government must ‘get a grip’ on inflation (theguardian.com)
Tory Leadership Question Responses Summarised:
How Will You Win Back Public Trust?
Sunak - With honesty and not promising things he won't deliver like his rivals tax cuts
Mordaunt - Need to stop mud-slinging, support public services better
Badenoch - Stop making u-turns and deliver on promises as well as end the Leaver/Remainer divide
Tugendhat - Deliver on commitments
Truss - A forward looking agenda that delivers
How Will You Address Cost of Living?
Sunak - Sort out inflation
Mordaunt - Says this isn't the platform to set out tax cuts, mentions raising lower and middle earner thresholds
Badenoch - Reduce fuel duty and uplift Universal Credit
Tugendhat - Doesn't state any direct plan or ideas, just mentions our dependency on Russia
Truss - Axe the NI rise and temporarily suspend green levies with regulatory reform
How Will You Respond to Putin?
Sunak - Sanctions and the Defense Budget
Mordaunt - Putin must fail and the public be given an honest picture of what that means
Badenoch - Committed to Nato
Trugendhat - Highlights his visits and involvement in Ukraine and that the UK mustn't define what a victory is for Ukraine
Truss - Send heavy weapons to Ukraine and add more sanctions
How Would You Tackle the Housing Crisis?
Sunak - Modular housing
Mordaunt - Need to build new homes and new towns with a focus on brownfield sites, says Sunak has avoided her letters on this for 2yrs
Badenoch - Highlights new homes need infrastructure too, no plan suggested though
Tugendhat - Use Right to Buy
Truss - Says the industry needs review rather than building estates in the middle of nowhere as a one size fits all fix
What Is Your Greatest Weakness?
Sunak - Work too hard and pay too much attention to detail
Mordaunt - Jokes about her love of Burmese Cats then says delagating
Badenoch - Sense of humour can make her appear flippant on issues
Tugendhat - Talks about the army too much
Truss - Too enthusiastic and tries to do too much
Closing Statements:
Sunak - Feed cut out
Mordaunt - Can defeat Labour and highlights her polling
Badenoch - Supports the small state and can win back byelection lost seats
Tugendhat - A clean start and can defend the UK
Truss - Will oppose Putin and can beat Starmer
I've got a feeling that for the small audience who cares about the C4 face off tonight it will be the final nail for all but Sunak and Mordaunt and will do nothing but harm for Sunak's members appeal. The disconnect is deafening.

I have a better idea. Take all the politicians, shove them on their own island and they can have at it for who’s the greediest, dumbest, in charge, literally whatever they want, they can vote and have meetings until the end of time.
The rest of us that actually aren’t useless pigs suckling off everyone else’s hard work can have a complete redo on the whole thing.

Prime minister stays at Chequers as NHS, schools and transport providers issue warnings about fatally high temperatures
Emergency Cobra Meeting as thousands potentially may die in the coming days from the extreme heat and... Boris can't be bothered to attend. Quite literally the Tories just don't get it anymore.

Another example of how much the hard right wing of the party doesn't grasp why they're candidate choices aren't leading the pack in the race:
Civil service: ‘Johnson can’t hand top police job to friend’ | Boris Johnson | The Guardian
Learning absolutely zero still, Johnson is trying to install a friend of his as the head of the National Crime Agency. Civil services have had to intervene saying that won't be permitted and he has to go through the same route as everyone else.
But, he'll be gone soon and it's more about those who had bid in the race...
Zahawi urged to explain source of £26m mystery loans | Nadhim Zahawi | The Guardian
Zahawi has only been chancellor for a fortnight and already now has to explain the hidden source of £26m in loans he has used personally
Lovely reminder of those near Johnson being corrupt and therefore the last choice for leader.

Mordaunt says she wouldn't support a second Scottish Independence Referendum. Apparently that was big news but I'm not sure what Tory will support one?
She has said though that she wouldn't pull the UK out of the ECHR and aims at creating mass green industry jobs
