Activists aiming to cut petrol supply to south-east England occupy oil terminal | Environmental activism | The Guardian
Activists try to occupy and block one of the South East's biggest oil terminals saying it's the only way the Government will listen and give in to their demands - who wants to break it to them?
PM admits households are facing ‘unquestionably tough times’, but says NI increase is right thing for the NHS
A new poll has shown that public support for Rushi Sunak has collapsed with just 22% favourable to him now. 56% of the public feel the UK is headed in the wrong direction and 52% want Johnson to resign if he is fined for the parties. Johnson's favourability score sits at 25%.

The Government plans to partly nationalise the National Grid
The torys admitting that maybe Margaret Thatcher's government did the wrong thing as its gonna cost a lot more to get it back now than what it was sold for.
An article on pritisation costs from 2019 makes for interesting reading
Since 1996, the electricity bill in this example - provided by the government - has gone up by about one-third in real terms, while the gas bill has gone up by just over a half.
the big lie with these sell off is how it reduces the state burden and means more choice and better deals for consumers this has never been true though as the above shows, and it just left us in a postion where we are at the mercy of the markets with no say in what they charge when energy crisis hit.
It also points out that our energy consumption is a lot lower than it was in the 90s as appliances have become a lot more energy efficient a little bit of digging showed things like a 32 inch crt tv used more than double the energy of a larger screen modern TV, likewise modern fridges, boilers washing machines, even dryers use massively less energy than they used too. depite all these things the rise in real terms is pretty shocking and this was before we took the estimated 40% increase we where all just hit with.Last edited by Lebowski; 07-04-2022, 08:23.

This really made me chuckle, uk power grid to be back up to strength in 10 years.
Year might happen if you get Japanese or Chinese firms on the job and planned it 10 years ago. UK contractors though? Absolutely no chance, it’ll drag on for 50 years and go 100 times over budget, especially by the time bungle and all his mates take their slice out the pork.

Infection with virus also associated with fivefold increase in risk of deep vein thrombosis, data suggests
COVID linked to a 5x higher risk of DVT and 33x higher risk of fatal blood clots
Plan will not please environmental campaigners, who say it fails to meet government’s net-zero targets
The UK is now pursuing 8 more Nuclear power stations

I'm somewhat stunned by the situation with George Galloway.
He's been presenting a show on a Russian state TV channel. So Twitter is doing this thing where it labels people in certain situations, and for him, it labeled him as something like "Member of the Russian State Media", which it's been doing for loads of people lately (many of whom are pundits in the US, which has enraged their fans at the sheer audacity of Twitter, well, telling the truth).
So Galloway removed the mention of this from his Twitter Bio (which literally said something like "watch me Saturdays at 7 on Sputnik"), then made a tirade tweet telling Twitter to remove the label or face legal action. Cue loads of responses where people pointed out that footage of him on the show is all over YouTube, and he still lists it on things like his LinkedIn.
You'd think that'd be it, but that's the part which is so infuriating. Galloway tweeted a bunch of sub-conspiracy-theory trash. Rage-click stuff. And then it comes into focus; it's really clear the guy had seen this was happening to other "celebrities" and had a plan, of sorts. Like he must've known there's no way removing the line from his bio would flummox people, he's not a complete imbecile - so he must've known if he did this, people would come running to see the train wreck, and that was has funneled more people to his stuff in a few hours than in the last couple of years.

Not the first time. Won't be the last.

The Business Secretary has said that Johnsons Energy Strategy could take at least 5 years to bring energy prices down. Hint - They're never coming down
Keir Starmer says it would be ‘breathtaking hypocrisy’ if Akshata Murty was using schemes to reduce tax
A spokesperson for Sunak's wife, Akshata Murthy, has said that the reason she doesn't pay tax on her foreign earnings is because she's an Indian national. Tax experts have responded saying nationality has nothing to do with it, her paying the tax is a personal choice matter. The Business Secretary said there's nothing dodgy going on, she pays UK tax on UK earnings and foreign tax on foreign earnings but when asked where he said he know nothing at all about her tax payments.
Labour have jumped on it demanding Sunak explain why the couple are using tax avoidance loops whilst repeatedly cranking up tax on the rest of the nation.
As it happened: Ed Miliband calls for clarity over Akshata Murthy’s UK tax status; government’s new energy strategy criticised
The Lib Dems claim that the Tory plans to build 8 new Nuclear power plants will add nearly £100 a year to energy prices
