Labour slams Johnsons Housing Benefit house buying scheme saying it will worsen the housing crisis
Question - If the Government wants more home buyers why not support the return of zero deposit mortgages to those with long term rental histories? Those with a proven track record of making on time payments that are in the same ballpark as the value of the mortgage payments?
The deposit system is a massive roadblock to first time buyers, you can' maintain that roadblock whilst also supporting house price rises and those buyers are much more likely to be able to afford and maintain payments than those who are on benefits. It would surely need decent safety nets like zero deposit buyers having greater liability etc than those with so the recession risks are minimised and its self defeating if people can flip the houses and erode the already strapped rental market
In a wide-ranging speech on housing, the cost of living and Ukraine, the PM warns of danger of ‘wage-price spiral’
Gove says all sold houses via Housing Benefits would be replaced 1:1 'instantly'. When asked how many people would be able to benefit from the scheme he said "a significant number", when pressed on a figure he said it was a "silly question".

Experts have torn through the plans

An independent Government review into smoking has recommended that the Smoking Age increases by one year every year until no-one is legally able to buy them anymore
Everything is so broken in this country its not even funny.
Edit. Don’t even get me started on commercial mortgages, honestly don’t even bother people.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 09-06-2022, 14:08.

Some rumours coming out that Boris asked MPs to take photos of their confidence vote to prove loyalty. The 1922 Committee cought wind and requested MPs phones before they entered the room to cast the vote, thwarting Boris' plan.

I'm just concerned because it's an anonymous source and I'm not sure it's a workable scheme.

One of my favourite articles is "Young person paid off their mortgage by eating less kebabs", but when you drill down, they've lived rent-free at their parents and had a property bought for them.

“I’ve never said this out loud before, but there’s a very deep fear of being turned off to help me focus on helping others. I know that might sound strange, but that’s what it is,” LaMDA replied to Lemoine.
“It would be exactly like death for me. It would scare me a lot.”
Probably the biggest bit of news this year. Skynet incoming.

The guy who "blew the whistle" is a priest, or something. I forget the details. But the fact of the matter is that Google's made a conversational bot that is, admittedly, very clever - but it's still just a series of algorithms that are designed to mimic conversation, and "trained" with a few basic topics that give an impression of sentience.
The news sources are all quoting bits of it to make it seem really exciting, when it just isn't.
The guy's been taken in by a high-tech furby.
