An easy win for the government would be to reduce fuel duty their in a position where 50% of what you pay at the pump is Tax people are driving less but this hasn't effected Tax coming in. they could easily cut the Percentage they take and still be making the same in tax that they where making a year ago.
They needs a regulating body to go along with this to stop the disparity between the wholesale cost and the forecourt costs. The AA are constantly highlighting how quick retailers are to pass on rises but never reverse them when costs come down. If they get fuel under control then it also helps gets business costs down too (food production, haulage ect). long term they need a plan to remove our reliance on oil though as a finite resource thats so intregal to our society and the world economy is a ridicules situation to be in.Last edited by Lebowski; 22-07-2022, 08:33.

So a law was just put in were employers can replace striking staff with skilled temporary workers. I see a number of problems with this, not least the moral one...
1: What skilled temporary staff? Where from? It's not like we have freedom of movement from the EU.
2: Temp workers cost more per hour than the staff you are replacing (and still have to pay!), so in the end its probably cheaper to agree to the workers demands
3: Rail workers, NHS staff and other skilled workers have to follow legal requirements while working. What temporary staff has knowledge of these rules and would risk imprisonment if they fail to follow them?

They'll end up cutting corners. Basically bending things so that whilst key roles can't be covered by agency staff they are still able to cover enough functions to soften the impact of the strikes so heavily that those on strike are more likely to give in before the employer does. It's all about reducing the disruption and increasing the fear the employee has. Whilst a train driver yields sway, there are many who might also stand alongside them who are more easily replaced. Just another s**** approach from a Government that is incapable at this point of making a single positive move. The next lot in the cabinet will probably have striking staff lined up with blindfolds in front of public firing squads
