if they have indicated it their fully committed to doing it, this would save them 2 billion apparently, by my calculations they need to find another 43 billion to just cover abolishing the top tax rate.

You can feel the scramble in this they spooked the markets with unfunded giveaways so are now on full scale slash and burn mode to try and find the money to fund the things they commited to doing. They see Benefits as an easy target and no doubt we will see more cuts council, education NHS ect to ballance the books, with truss saying this was their plan all along, which we all know is bull****, it will work the pound will recover and the poorest and sickest in society will bear the brunt.

In response to the accusation my previous comments were somehow inspired by media lies is laughable.

I've avoided reading newspapers and watching the just as bias broadcast TV news channels for decades. My position is based on the experiences I've had over the last 50 years which has left me cynical about believing anything a politician or the politically motivated say or claim.

This whole situation where the public is being convinced that Labour now has some magic pill that is going to fix everything is the thing that has the sink of media manipulation.

This crisis comes just after the Labour party conference where their gloriously dull leader and his minions managed not say or do anything too radical, just presenting a moderate, sensible facade and, dare I say it: looking, almost, governmental.

Then the inadequate PM Liz Truss and her CoftE score between them score a series of own goals the worst being a bizarre, ill-considered budget. The opportunity to kick them whilst they're down was too tempting and the politically manipulated media piled in. Consequently the sheep are now quickly sold on the message that Labour is good,Tories are bad and the clamour generated in the country for a General Election snowballs. Hope some here understand those literary references.

It boils down to this: what is being proposed is simply the replacement of the Conservative government with a Labour one who have no idea what to do about the current financial crisis either. Great solution - change a bunch of right of centre incompetents for a bunch of left of centre incompetents. It is bound to work.

        *shrug*

That’s your prerogative to say that, and to base your opinions on personal experience only.

I prefer to look at the studies I’ve posted and at least challenge that media orthodoxy that ‘Cons = good with the economy, Lab = bad’ that you seem to agree with, despite avoiding all media for 50 years.

I'm glad Starmer is dull. I don't want a personality running the country.

To be fair to him, his conspiracy theorist YouTubers or podcasters or some guy down the pub probably give him all the hard facts.

I’m getting the chilling realisation that Truss and Kwarteng know exactly what they’re doing with the economy, and it’s much too charitable to consider them incompetents despite their poor appearances in the media. They’re attempting a far-right libertarian dream, “shock therapy” economics, smashing down the economy so it can be rebuilt in the way their ideology demands.
