I think they want to make it more like the German Bundesrat last time I looked. Then again, I can see Starmer junking the whole idea closer to an election, because Starmer.

(I support having a second chamber, FWIW; I’m probably on the same page Cassius as saying we need something, as it’s important to checks and balances, but it needs urgent reform. The worst aspect of the HoL is that the PM can pack it with his/her mates and cronies.)

For real?

Yeah. Last reading was end of December. But it still seems way too much especially with the government £400. It's the storage heater number that has gone nuts, but I'm only here 3 days a week and they are on 10°C holiday mode when I'm not here.

Ouch, that must hurt.

I had the opposite experience with Octopus when I submitted my first metering, since being swapped from Bulb, at the end of March and not having sent one since the end of November.

I thought I may have been in for a £200+ hit but apparently I've been such a good boy, living in an ice box all winter, my account was actually still in credit, mostly thanks to the government subsidy of course.

That seems nuts. We transferred over to them about two months ago and it's been pretty straight forward so far. Bulb said we should be paying £40 more per month than we are, Octopus says it should be £80 but our current actual use is only £10 more than we're paying per month and we're moving soon to a much more energy efficient and insulated house with an energy balance of about +£200 after billing so I've got no inclination to pay more.

Had a right touch this week
Had my Email from OVO confirming my prices are coming down.
We are going from a combined gas & Electricity bill of £210 per month down to £136 per month

But aside from that because we were standing at over £1000 in credit we are getting a rebate of £630 too

I'll be banking both the credit & the additional difference between my old bill & new bill so I have extra ready for the potential increase coming in the winter but all in a nice return to normal

We've had our reduction as well Neil from OVO down £52 a month and like you loads in credit due to their massively over estimation in what our bills would go up to.

Likely not this winter either

Not surprised. In our case, I turned the thermostat right down and we spent £40 on various pajamas, lounge pants etc.

Well I just got my feed in cheque from SSE. £68 for almost 2000kwh exported. They resold that for about £1300.
I would mind so much - I didn't install solar to make money, but what I get doesn't cover the daily charge to not use any electricity off the grid!

They've got zero interest in the eco reasonings. Once you factor in the cost of installation where's the sales pitch for people to keep having panels installed?

Wait, you’re charged to not use electricity?

The unit price from what I`ve been told at the plugged in show, doesn't include SEG or FIT exports. There is zero overhead for the energy firms. Its all done by smart meters.

I didnt have Solar installed to make money, I was left some money and my mum was a big believer.
Dogg Thang You still get to pay the standing charge regardless of what you use even if it is zero.

Excuse my ignorance because I know nothing about this but if what you’re generating isn’t making you enough to cover the standing charges, is it possible to disconnect completely from the grid and just power your own house so you have no charges?
