Just a quick shout out to Neon Ignition and their sterling work covering this war.

I've turned off the TV News at night and limit my Twitter use as I've had enough doom scrolling. But your posts give a great overnight of the war, without the nitty gritty that my mind couldn't cope with right not.

Cheers, I've largely tried to keep it to bursts of news rather than endless updates as it's such a fast moving thing and also cutting out a lot of the more graphic stories as to be honest I don't think they add anything and feel a bit media exploitative

Though not critical to its safety, electric power has been lost at Chernobyl suggesting the Russians are struggling to maintain the reactor

Italian far-right politician and former deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini, infamous for wearing Putin t-shirts, was publicly humiliated by a Polish mayor:

Wojciech Bakun, the mayor of a Polish town bordering Ukraine, offers to take the leader of Italy's right-wing League party to the border and to a refugee centre 'to see what your friend Putin has done'.

The more Salvini is insulted, the happier I am.

Wheat prices doubled today as a result of the war, with a further 100% increase to come this year. This isn’t because there’s a shortage, this is just profiteering from the mills as they have already bought all their grain. Next year there will be further increases again as the grain from Ukraine & Russia simply wont be available.

So that was a nice surprise i could of done without today along with everyone else.

I know you like a bit of a moan, but I’d rather pay double for my sugar puffs than have my house bombed, family displaced or have no running water or electricity (almost many other horrible things)

Let have a bit of proportion please.

My point being that no one should be paying anymore this year at all, as mills have already bought and paid for all their grain, this is just profiteering off the back of a perceived shortage from the mills, there isn’t a shortage.

Biden said yesterday that he wouldn't tolerate any shenanigans from American companies profiteering on these increases, over and above what is a fair increase to pass on to consumers.

Doubt that will happen here though.

Interesting reading about US mercs / private security that have been known to prolong conflicts to increase their profits. Article didn't state how they'd go about this, but could believe it.

They certainly did in the Afghanistan war (both of them). Russia used Russian merc at the start of this conflict to destroy critical infrastructure & take out high value targets, however they’ve not had much success as their finding Ukrainian army too tough a nut and frustratingly organised even under pressure.

China is sending $795,000 of aid to Ukraine. Its an interesting development. They are attempting to play both sides of the field.
