    Physical buttons for touchscreens

Does this exist? I can't find anything useful. I have a touchscreen in my car for the doubleDin stereo. I miss having volume knob I can use without looking at it. There are touch buttons for up and down volume always in the same place. Is there something I can stick on them that will work?

Touchscreens just need replacing with physical buttons full stop. They're classic example of putting tech into a car for a sales pitch to the clear detriment of the passenger and vehicle design. I imagine in time there'll be a push back against them as they'll result in more accidents as they become more common. I can't imagine there's a good, safe way of putting a physical button over the screen controls without damaging the screen, you'd need something conductive you touch and that touches the screen without grating against the glass like metal would

Touchscreens should be banned in cars, their dangerous full stop, exactly the same as messing with your phone screen while driving.

Don't mind me, just typing my reply on a BlackBerry Classic that I've held onto like a crotchety old geezer because touchscreens absolutely suck.

I did have a little joystick attachment for my iPad years ago but it didn’t work very well. It was supposed to replicate your fingers on the onscreen d-pad but took a fair amount of movement to actually register your input.

Can I cut it up and use it?

They must do as this is precisely what the Elgato Stream Deck is. Underneath it's a touch screen with buttons (the individual buttons don't have their own screens. I couldn't tell you where to buy them tho. Perhaps you could get a broken Stream Deck and take it apart - Or maybe it's just a normal screen with normal buttons - I hadn't considered that.

Adafruit did a teardown, it is a touch screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9apO--Qpz58

The volume knob in my gt86 was too tiny to use. Remedied with a Lego tyre!

Touchscreens are such a terrible way to input anything that requires precision. I think about it every time I see them used in sci-fi spaceships.
