UK could become an ‘EU lite’ member of bloc, suggests Franco-German report | European Union | The Guardian
An outline of a fourth form of EU membership has been submitted which, if it came into effect, would allow countries such as the UK to join the EU in a limited capacity allowign for greater political cooperation without being bound by EU law. The move comes as the EU looks to heavily expand itself in response to external threats such as Russia.

Sunak planning to drop net zero policies in pre-election challenge to Labour | Green politics | The Guardian
As inevitable as the sun rising or rain falling
The plan to ban the sale of fossil fuel new cars in 2030 is to be delayed to 2035 - bringing us in line with the EU's deadline
The Tories are also set to scrap requiring landlords to make their properties more energy efficient, easing off the ban of oil boilers. The target of being carbon neutral by 2050 is set to remain.

The announcement is being rushed through at 4:30pm in a leader statement being delivered by Sunak to the media via phone because of the huge ****storm that has kicked off. The reaction is very typical of how over the top the discussion often quickly gets which gets in the way of any serious, genuine debate - something that led us to this point in the first place.
It can't be THE BIGGEST DISASTER ever to delay one or two practical elements of net zero planning by 5 years and yet NO CONCERN AT ALL regarding the practicalities and realities of hitting the original deadline in pretty much the same span of time from a point so removed from the reality of the situation we start from,

Nicotine Free Vapes on Amazon found to contain Nicotine
Saturday's papers include warnings from two former PMs on claims HS2 could be scaled back - and reports of an all-out smoking ban.
And rumbles that Sunak is to set a fixed date of birth for which anyone born after it will never be allowed to buy cigarettes regardless of how old they become, phasing cigs out of sale
This latter one has been long coming and showcases why any talk of making drugs legal to purchase is a dead in the water discussion. No time soon but I expect the day eyes turn to tighter alchohol regulation will come around way, way down the line too.
