Rwanda bill vote: minister says rules could be changed so ECHR injunctions could be ignored – UK politics live (theguardian.com)
Three Tories have resigned over the Rwanda Bill and 60 rebelled last night though like the cowards they always are nearly all are expected to tuck their tails between their legs and vote it through later today after which we will finally see... no flights going to Rwanda.

Excited that Rwanda will finally be a safe place to visit later today, well done Rwanda on cleaning up your act must have taken a lot of hard work. The place is on the up, theirs this new all-inclusive resort that is being billed as the must-go to place this summer it's a pricey as they spent 250 million on it already so i cant imagine how luxurious it will be, its government backed and super exclusive only space for 200 guests.
They're offering free places to people who complete this English Channel crossing viral challenge thing, it's hardly the Squid games David Walliams swam it all in one go so It must be pretty easy to cross in a boat. Problem is it's only seems to open to non UK residents which is a disgrace! Pandering to the minorities and foreigners is what's wrong with the UK.

The President of Rwanda has said that he'd be perfectly happy if the deal ended having said the saga can only go on for so long.

Prime minister says he wants first flight to leave ‘as soon as practicably possible’ but will not give date
Sunak massively tries his luck by challenging the House of Lords to let the Rwanda Bill pass through by accepting 'the will of the people'. The Lords no doubt be heavily moved by the words of the unelected, unified PM pleading his case for the non-consulted, non-mandated bill on the people's unrequested behalf.
Meanwhile the Home Office has lost another 6,000 asylum seekers

Expect to see this a lot in the coming decade. The transition to greener tech means the decimation of many roles and the replacements won't be coming to the same locations as the old sites

I was listening to them talking about this on the radio last night, and it made me think we are heading for massive problems as more and more of these industries decline it's not just the decimating an industry but causing mass unemployment and making places not viable to live anymore. The German, French and Spanish Governments are all committing billions to secure the future of their steel industries, Us not so much, We are happy to just let them disappear and continue the decline of yet another industry and community.

Originally posted by Greenpeace UK’s policy director Dr Doug ParrClean steel production is the future of this industry, and many countries around the world are already shifting to green steel made with hydrogen technology. Alongside the new electric arc furnaces, this is an option that could have saved jobs at Port Talbot and helped revitalise this industry but it’s now a missed opportunity.
The global race to a low-carbon economy is on, and if the UK doesn’t seize its chance to create those jobs here, they’ll simply go somewhere else. We believe a better future for the workers, the economy and the planet is possible - but both government and businesses need to get serious about it.”
It's not like for like transition here which is the problem the UK faces, its not Boats or Bankers though so the Goverment is happy to let it happen.Last edited by Lebowski; 19-01-2024, 14:05.

(Main export market for British-made steel for many years was the rest of Europe – hope nobody made selling goods to that market that more difficult and expensive, or anything.)

From what I remember (if I'm right) going back a few years - when we were in the EU we had a tiff with the Americans as our steel was cheaper than theirs and better quality, we in the EU had gone through the pain then of dragging our old steelmaking into the 21st century the American's had yet to do this. All sorts of sanctions were starting but the EU did a peach of a checkmate by threatening to tax something like oranges and products made from - Bush's brother was Governor of Florida.
Since then the Chinese have come in with even cheaper stuff so it's going to be tough for the Europeans and us to compete.
