The video segment here is well worth a few minutes of your time;

It's a tricky business. Manufacturers have a list of places they can't export to and will obey those rules. Why would we impose sanctions on Georgia though? They've done nothing wrong. We can't impose sanctions of a country that we think might not follow the rules (the companies buying these goods will have stated that their final destination is not on the UK list of restricted countries).

Anything that can and would go into weapons will be well known where it’s going and who it ends up in the hands of, then where it’s being sold onto.
Years ago before the war, but when sanctions started on Russia, I couldn’t even get fishing bait into a good customer I had over there, so how the F**K are they allowed to get their hands on weapons parts in the middle of a war? Because it’s been allowed by someone that’s how.

You could have got fishing bait to someone in Georgia though. And they could have told you it was just for them and then forwarded it on to your russian customer. If your customer found a proxy buyer in Georgia no? Obviously we're talking about fishing bait so that's too much effort but if you're Russia and you need arms to fight a war then you make that effort. The UK can't impose sanctions on Russia and all companies in any country that they think might lie about the final destination of those goods. We know it doesn't work and I'm sure the government knows as well. It's just lip service but I don't really see how they can solve this issue.

This isn’t the 1800’s where you can slip someone a few bob to turn a blind eye, everything is checked, everything is watched from start to finish in transport, anyone dealing with weapons is vetted and watched, it’s major work to get these types of things out the UK or EU.
So if Russia if getting these parts out the UK, it’s because someone in government is helping them, it’s that clear cut.
