Yup, some have more money than others, just the way it is. Yes they lucked out by having a mega-rich consortium take them over but I think most fans wouldn't protest too much if it happened to their club.

They definitely need to sort out their defence first though. I think Ravanelli scored something like 27 goals for Middlesbrough the year they went down, so a dodgy defence can definitely cancel out even the best of attacking players.

What should set Kaka's alarm bells ringing is when his agent looks at the league table and starts insisting they put a relegation release clause in his contract

Kaka & Robinho playing in the Championship next season? Now that would be funny!

I'm worried now that I've tempted fate by mentioning relegation! Spurs aren't exactly in a wonderful position themselves. However, we're being sensible and going after players like Kenwyn Jones, not rubbish like Kaka, so it's all okay

Apparently we're trying to resurrect a few deals by offering players + cash. Jenas and Bent could be on their way out apparently. Although Harry was going on about improving the size of the squad, so player swaps would seem to defeat that goal.

I'd like to see Kaka playing in the Premiership even if he does end up playing for City. The figures being banded around are incredible, silly even. But then City have money to throw around - and lots of it!

Ultimately this will just hurt the market though. City now have the ability, like Chelsea, to spend any amount of money on any player; and no other club can match the wages they can tempt players with.

Whatever happened to the idea (I think it was implemented with the G14) that only 70% of the clubs revenue can go on player wages, in order to maintain a sustainable business?

            ....

Steve Bruce has said that a deal to transfer Palacios to Spurs is virtually done. Also SSN are saying that Mourhino has confirmed he'd be interested in taking Jenas to Inter... feels very strange to type that!

City have the ability that Chelsea never had - and that is to totally blow the others out.
Chelsea, for all of their big buys were matched (pretty much) by Man U I believe. They have 3 players at about £30m (Ferdinand, Berbatov and Rooney) and have spent £50m this season on three players - I think Chelsea's biggest ones are Sheva [30m] Essien and Drogba [about 25m].
City have to pay a couple of premiums, and Chelsea at least were vaguely successful when they started their nonsense.

I think the biggest question is:

Cronaldo or Kaka? Which is more boring as transfer *sagas* go?
Ironically, Kaka, if he moves, may help Man U out this summer as Real will have to increase their offer to MU for CR7 (or CR9 if reports are to be believed). I think the Glazers would like to knock 100m off their debt - I think we all would!!

The thing Chelsea had/have over Man City was that when the mega money was spent, there was a decent framework of a team to build on and we were climbing the tables. Although a lot of money was flashed around for a couple of seasons, it was spent well building a strong squad without focusing on megastars (with the exception of Abramovich's choice of shev). We've built a world class training ground and pumped a huge amount into our youth team. As I've pointed out ad nauseum, Man U have outspent out for the last 2 seasons. Man U will have to spend even more to replace some players who'll be leaving this season or the next. Chelsea 'only' really need a world class replacement for drogba and maybe some cover for Essien.

Man City don't have a good framework and they're bizarrely a relegation risk despite having some big names

He is a top player but he is most definitely not worth £100 Million and £500K a week in wages. No footballer is

City obviously have other idea though.

"City is going down with billion in the bank
                      a billion in the bank
                      a billion in the bank..."

This always pees me off. Im really enjoying Wigan under Bruce but why do players think going to spurs and teams like newcastle is worth it? Wigan are in a very good position this season and look really solid at the moment yet players always jump ship when the going is good.

Man City have whacked in for a bid for De Jong also

they're willing to pay a £12m premium to get him now rather than at the end of the season.

I cans see city putting a bid in for Drogba. He hates it at Chelski and is exactly the type of player who will move for lots of money.

Kaka is a VERY good player. But he is no Zidane - noone is. Even in the "Ronaldinho era", Ricky Kaka (I love that name for some reason) was a more effective player and he was the guy that kept Brazil competent as the rest ponced around the pitch. It is only cos of Serie A's relative unpopularity that he is not as well known in the UK.
