They've been doing incredibly well for quite a while now.
5 European Cup wins puts them one ahead of Barca but 4 behind Real Madrid.

Bayern have historically got to a lot of European Cup finals, only to lose them.

Yup, they've been to the final 10 times (only AC Milan and Real Madrid have more final appearances) but have managed to lose 5 of them, the most final losses along with Juve and Benfica.

Michael Ballack was saying before the match that they're often called chokers in Germany and they were desperate for a win to help get rid of that tag.

Michael Ballack would know about what it takes to be a choker, what with him having been part of Bayer Leverkusen's infamous "Neverkusen" era in the late 90's and early 2000s which included them completely blowing the Bundesliga, German Cup & Champions' League treble in 2001/2.

Don't forget Ballack also lost the World Cup final that year. Robben isn't far from him in that regard. He lost both the CL final and the World cup final in a single season too. But I think he did win the league (which isn't a difficult feat for Bayern). Yesterday was redemption for him and Bayern.

Ballack also lost the 2008 European Cup final, by the way. I think he has never won a single international final.

Poor old Ballack. You know you're not good at winning finals when you can't even beat Spurs

              Not entirely true.

Ballack was actually suspended for the 2002 World Cup Final, having picked up a yellow card against South Korea in the semi-final which ruled him out. I actually felt sorry for him as he scored the decisive goal in that match to send Germany through to the final.

Two decades of Champions League football on British terrestrial television will end from 2015 onwards.

BT Sport have paid UEFA ?900m to have the rights in a three-year deal.

BT Sport announces an exclusive three-year deal to broadcast live Champions League and Europa League football matches in the UK.

Another victory for the football fan.....

I always thought that terrestrial channels were entitled to first dibs on one game per week as a 'protected game'. I guess I was wrong.

Awful news, though. Extremely irksome how BT Sport spin this as somehow a win for football fans - great, now people who would have been otherwise able to watch games now cannot.

More money for clubs to give more wages to players who already earn a bomb. The fan loses out every time. It's disgusting and why I will never support a team or pay for merchandise.

At least they will have 'some' games free.

It's another kick in the teeth for fans.

Bad for the consumer. More subscriptions to pay, with higher prices. We've seen it already with the Premier League, and now we'll see it with the Champions League. Bleeding the fans dry. Football without fans is nothing. Against Modern Football/

Looks like my social club will see me even more often...with its lovely foreign satellite dish!
I'd probably be more upset if I supported a team that might ever qualify for the CL though

So it's all Champions League AND Europa League matches. You could get some pretty tasty matches in the Europa League in the later rounds that were a good watch on Channel 5, ITV 4, etc., but in the future you'll even have to pay for those. Maybe one day the football money bubble will burst and force a bit of normality to return to the game but it looks like it's only going to get worse.

A good friend of my Dad got fed up with the way football was going as far back as the 80's. He was a regular at White Hart Lane as a kid in the 40's, then in the 50's and 60's, but he eventually stopped going as the gap between what the fans earned and what the footballers earned became a chasm. He hasn't been for years, refuses to pay the ticket prices, buy merchandise, Sky subscriptions, etc., anything that goes towards the wages and commercialisation of the game.

Indeed. You lot may have noticed I favour Arsenal the most. The simple reason being is that I want entertainment when I am watching a match for 90 mins. In this crazy ticket price era, I would not pay upward of ?40 to watch over half of the Premier League teams in action. I barely want to watch teams like Stoke and West Ham on TV for free, let alone pay for it.

I've nothing wrong with players earning good wages. But ?20 for 90mins entertainment should be the highest price for me.

God, I'd save a fortune if the ticket prices were capped at ?20! My ticket for Spurs vs Newcastle tomorrow is ?41 and it's only considered a category "B" match. It'd be ?54 if it was category A.

You're probably lucky not to have a team that you support. Going to Spurs with my Dad and younger brother back in the early 90's meant I was able to get hooked on it without worrying about little incidental details like how much it cost
