Reading the article on the Guardian it seems Rodgers doesn't like the idea of being part of a process to interview candidates. Is he realistic in demanding to just be offered the job?
There are many examples of managers doing well for a few seasons and then disappearing. Either way Rodgers is a bit premature in demanding to be offered a job rather than interviewed. That kind of behaviour should be reserved for the top managers.

If i'm honest I wouldn't fancy the job if I was a manager. I think it is very difficult at the moment as I feel the squad isn't that great. There is going to be huge pressure on the next person to take over at the club. The only plus point is that Liverpool fans often seem to be brilliant in supporting their managers.

As a manager at a club whose main worry is survival such as Wigan or Swansea then whilst taking over Liverpool at the moment would definitely be difficult its the kind of challenge you'd have to consider, I think. The truth is when joining any club who demands a lot (unrealistic maybe) the reason the position is vacant is invariably because the incumbent failed and thus there is some work to do to get the club to where the owners want it.
Granted, right now Liverpool's idea of 4th is seemingly miles away so it will be very difficult. However, now the owners will have appointed every single executive position within the club you'd have to think the manager will also get time and support from the hierarchy. If they dont then Liverpool will end up on the scrap heap very soon.
So for that reason I think the Rodgers was wrong, if the Guardian are right, in refusing interviews because he deems it beneath him.

It's not that he thinks interviews are "beneath him."

I'd like to think thats the case. Its a strange one, at that kind of level you should be speaking to the person you want. As you said, it should be more of a headhunting excercise. But at the same time the level at which Martinez and Rodgers have performed in the past means they aren't a shoe in for the job.
There again, the club is at a level right now where they will find it difficult to attract the top managers. The owners are also clearly inexperienced in football so they might want to talk to as many people as possible for the job.

Rodgers turned down the offer from Liverpool for two reasons.
1. He still has a job to do for us and he seems like a genuinely loyal bloke. his daughter is settled in the area and is halfway through her a-levels, he loves it down here.
2. He's been burnt before by jumping from Watford to Reading. He knows that he needs a certain type of club to suit the system he plays. Liverpool aren't the club for him. Firstly the players aren't there to play his system and secondly he may not have the time needed to implement his style of playing.
I love the fact that liverpool fans were all angry because their club was approaching a manager from little old Swansea, then they were twice as pissed off when Rodgers turned them down.

I'm not sure angry is the right term. As for your first point regarding loyalty, you undermine that with the second point. Being that he left a good thing in Watford for more money at Reading. Loyalty does not play a part in these things generally, especially when the wages clubs like Liverpool talk at are ridiculous.

Fair play to him. I think, reading articles I have, if Liverpool made him their main candidate and asked him he would have spoken to them. We'll never know because Liverpool have decided to speak to lots of people about the job without pinpointing one person apart from a wild dream in Guardiola.
At the moment AVB looks to be an option. I would be very excited about his appointment. He is the kind of manager Liverpool need, I think. It all depends on the owners, they need to give the next person plenty of time.

To be honest I think he's more than happy at Swansea and that can count for an awful lot.

As someone else has mentioned, can't help but feel the new owners inexperience in football could result in Liverpool making the wrong appointment.
