Southampton have sacked Nigel Adkins. Successive promotions to take the club from the third tier to the top flight, currently outside the relegation zone, showing lots of fighting spirit to come back from 2-0 away to Chelsea to get a point...... nah, not good enough, here's your P45. Football is complete arse sometimes.

It's all part of our master plan to become the laughing stock of the Premier League. It's ****ing disgraceful.

He's been replaced by Mauricio Pochettino. I've read a couple of bits and pieces saying that he's a very well thought of young coach, but he left Espanyol at the end of November with the team bottom of La Liga having won only two of thirteen matches. That hardly screams out that he's bound to do better than Adkins would have done.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're bringing in Pochettino because of the players he has access to.

But still, it's hard to see this as a rational decision. In two years, Adkins took Southampton from the bottom of League One to above Newcastle in the Premier League.

Chelsea are cruising 2 - 0 at half time against Arsenal who really are shadow of their former selves. Jack Wilshere is probably the only player who would walk into the Chelsea/City/Utd starting 11.

It'll be a shame if he goes, but I think at 40 mil the club would have to accept, thats a serious profit on the money they paid and they could reinvest some serious cash into the playing staff with that.
