Indeed. Something like this would just be helping to hammer the final nails into the coffin.
Thankfully though it seems like The Times (and all the news outlets that copied their story) has fallen for a hoax. Apparently their (uncredited) source for the piece was a satirical French web site that wrote the story as a piss take. Fact checking, who needs it? Hopefully the reports of this being a hoax won't turn out to be hoaxes themselves......
Having said that I'm sure something along those lines will happen eventually. The rich just want to get richer and won't give a damn about anyone else as long as they can line their pockets. I wouldn't bet against European football eventually becoming an NFL style closed shop, 32 or so "elite" clubs spread across the continent, no promotion or relegation, with the clubs left on the outside struggling to survive.

2-1 down to southampton at half time. FFS. Rodgers need to shut his mouth talking about champions league places and all the other nonsense he's been spouting during the week. They've won 4 games in a row! try not to get ahead of yourself!
Urgh...
Defensively liverpool have looked so frail throughout the season. Don't know if it's down to Rodgers tactics or just not having the quality.

Rodgers post match:"blah blah blah" more spin.
Someone was spot on in the comments section on the bbc: "Downing, Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, all way below liverpool quality."
Need a good clearout in the summer.
Get rid of Jones too. How he has wormed his way into the first team I don't know. Have no confidence with him in goal.

Really thought we were going to win this one about 3-1, but no, the result was revsersed. All that good hard work of the last couple of weeks undone. And it was all made worse by Everton and Arsenal both winning today.
Six or seventh here we come, forget the fifth I predicted earlier in the week unless we have a real strong run of results.

It's painful watching them play really well one week then get absolutely demolished the next. I actually thought they were, ever so slowly, starting to come out of the woods recently but this is another step back.
Some of the comments have made me laugh:
COMMENTS FROM BRENDAN RODGERS... First I'd like to say my team were OUTSTANDING today and the REF was awful. We should have won comfortably but one error cost us
I know Rodgers is trying to build the team up and needs supporting, but he makes these comments every time liverpool get smashed and then when they win a few and he starts talking champions league/gunning for the title. It's madness.
He needs to just be quiet and put all his energy into getting some decent players in during the summer and get rid of all the dead wood.
Downing, Jones, Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, Jose Enrique, christ, I read the other day liverpool might be stuck with Carroll
Edit:
Sorry for venting but this has been a rather miserable season.

We are utter ****e at present. Our football is an atrocity of entertainment, and we certainly haven't sacrificed it for results. Most players are in terrible form, look demotivated and without a role. O'Neill gives out the aura of being a football dinosaur with no clue as to how to deal with the current malaise. Millions spunked on complete toss, and old problems STILL not rectified. How many more years can we go without a left back on the books?
Next fixtures include Man United, Everton, Chelsea, Spurs and Toon Toon. Only the ****ness of others will keep us up.

Your run in is fairly horrific given your form.
We had only managed a goal in 2 of our last 8 games; the Norwich fans summed your team up with this chant:
'We've actually scored, we've actually scored.
How sh*t must you be?
We've actually scored!'

This shower of ****e are going backwards - and quickly. Even a Delia-style rousing pissed-up rant by big time celeb fans such as Steve Cram and Gina McKee would fail to motivate these boil-in-the-bag turds.
