Nice one, Wigan. A potentially decent end of season relegation battle ruined.

BBC has it as official now. I'm quite gutted, he was the one fixed point in a changing age.

Here's the BBC story. I think this one might cause one or two ripples in the football world

Rumours abound about Moyes or Mourhino replacing him.

I think I'd go for Moyes as he would be more of a club man but it will take years!

If I were cynical I'd say that it was quite convenient that David Moyes, reportedly a good friend of Alex Ferguson, just happens to have delayed renewing his contract this season so that he'll be free to walk into the Man Utd job with zero negotiations / compensation needed with Everton...

This tweet made me laugh: "When Tottenham win at Old Trafford, you know it's time to retire!"

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted he will continue to abuse referees and journalists in an unofficial capacity after his retirement as Manchester United manager.
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Strangely enough, Roy Hodgson isn't being touted as a possible successor. Funny, that.

Roys talents would be wasted at United.

I think they'll be on a steady decline with no Fergie at the helm but it would amuse me no end if they went for Mourinho.

                    Maybe Brucie or Hughes?

Lets see how many glory hunting turds will still be supporting United 10 years from now.

It's going to be even more amusing when United constantly outperform Liverpool with an Everton manager at the helm.

You might want to check out Moyes' record against Liverpool as Everton manager - not impressive at all. Just saying.

I would LOVE for that to be the case, but I don't see Utd throwing their domination of the English game away like Liverpool did in the 90s. Commercially and otherwise, they'll always have the clout to be there or thereabouts - just look at the commercial revenue that they've pulled in lately for a start.

If they didn't have the Glazer debt to service, they literally would be the English Bayern Munich - unstoppable.

Nah, they'll piss all that money up the wall eventually. I think even if the next manager gets off to a good start the united fans simply don't have the patience at all; anyone remember a few seasons back when Chelsea were bossing it and United fans had the 'FERGIE OUT' banners?

Moyes would be too sensible a choice. I'm expecting a total cluster**** of an appointment.

I believe Steve Mcclaren is available.

David Moyes has told Everton he wants to become Sir Alex Ferguson's successor as Manchester United manager.

                            Wut!

Mcclaren was right there for the taking!

I dont see how Moyes is a particularly good choice as manager. Against the bigger clubs his team struggle and against Liverpool this season he has struggled, regardless of the fact that his current team is regarded as being better than the current Liverpool team. His tactics in bigger games, whenever I see Everton play, is far too negative. Managers, generally, have a certain style of playing and stick with it regardless of club.

Moyes' real test will be to take the defensive mentality at Everton and change it to what is required at United. If he does that then fair play to him, I'm not sure if its gonna be a smooth transition though.
