Get in there. Had a little bet on there being a red card in this match.

For me, this is the first World Cup where there has been almost no expectation of England success. Most people I know would be pleasantly surprised if England made the quarters, and satisfied with getting through the group. They weren't wonderful against Italy but they weren't bad and they didn't fail to deliver on expectations, IMO.

In the France Honduras match yesterday with the goal-line technology 'controversy' I did't know whether laugh or scream at the dimwits, amongst them some of the commentators, who didn't seem to understand it had worked perfectly.

The mistake, if there was one, came in showing the whole sequence with the ball hitting the far post first. Obviously that could never have been in doubt wasn't a goal but flagging that as No Goal before showing the actual goal seemed to confuse some people. There should have been no confusion that a goal had been scored whatever the case and the ref had made the correct decision right from the start.

Portugal has been buried. Germany confirmed they are clear cut favourites to win it all. Easily the best and most well balanced team on paper. They looked fit, and would win with even bigger numbers if Pepe wasn't being sent off. Germany went in a lower gear after that happened.

Only Brazil has a chance against them, although their squad is quite a bit weaker they have the home advantage and surely referees. Italy perhaps, because Italy always manages to kill them them up until now.

I think the only other team with a chance against them is Holland

              You're right.
Can already say that Germany v Holland would make a great final (if their paths don't cross along the way).
They are both a class above everyone else we've seen so far, quite liked Mexico too though.

Yeah Holland vs Germany would be a great final. Overall i think the Germans are slightly stronger but Holland seem more dynamic attacking wise and seem like they could create more chances for themselves. I would love to see Messi lift the world cup but after seeing Argentina's opening game i don't think they are good enough to win it.

If the Dutch can stop themselves from imploding their mix of experienced and skilled younger players should take them a long way. But after just one match I think that apart from the obvious no-hopers it is still all very much guess work how far any of the serious contenders are going to go and if there are any dark horses amongst the rest.

Is looking that way, that'll bring Spain back down to earth with a bump.

                      Is 2-0 to Chile now.

Ouch, they are going to get slated in the press tomorrow.

Anyone seen the world cup head and shoulders ad with Joe Hart?

Most imaginative punditry line up so far for the (ITV coverage) excellent Australia/Holland game yesterday afternoon? Martin O'Neil, Patrick Viera and Andros Townsend: just the right mix of managerial and playing experience combined with youthful enthusiasm all delivering well expressed and insightful analysis. Including a young player, who seemed a natural in front of the camera and could be a future England regular, to counterpoint those respected experts was a refreshingly bold choice.

I thought the Henry/Ferdinand/Seedorf combo for the Spain games last night was OK (they were in the studio for the analysis).

Thoughts for tonight, think we'll up our game and manage to put a few past Uruguay?

Can see Italy & Costa Rica being happy with a draw tomorrow, gives them a bit of an advantage playing the next day.

                              Can feel the tension building....

Nice to see five Liverpool players on the pitch though
