Looks good. Why so cheap? Does it matter that it's hdmi 1.2a?

It's a discontinued model - should be a cracking amp though

Depends what you need, but if your player does the decoding of audio this will be fine - e.g the PS3 will decode TrueHD et al & send to this amp via HDMI as PCM; lovely uncompressed audio from Blu-Rays.

I've been considering a new amp to replace my Denon AVR 1706 which just isn't right sometimes at dealing with centre channel audio in films making it very echoey, quiet and sounds as if the treble is way up. I may snap this up if I can find the monies!

Reviewed here by Home Cinema Choice as part of a group test. They suggest it's HDMI 1.3 (error?), and also mention that it's a little underpowered when dealing with 5/6/7.1 set-ups.

I wonder what the review score would be if they knew it was under £200? not approx £500

The pdf in th Home Cinema Choice Link also states a usb port and THX2 certifiction which is one of the other models. Too much cutting & pasting going on I think

If feed with True HD signal would you notice an improvement over DD 5.1 ?

Got this delivered yesterday and gave it a quick try last night, and have to say Im very very impressed. Its all quick plug and play, and even comes with a microphone which will automatically setup the levels and distance and everything of the speaker to the optimal settings.

Only tried out one movie, Assassination of Jesse James on BluRay and the difference when using PCM (through HDMI) over using Dolby Digital (through optical) through a standard amp is immediately noticeable, so much more can be heard that Id not heard before, eg/ the first scene where Jesse is standing in the field, you can hear the chirps and sounds of all the insects that I didnt even realise were there when I watched it the first time.

              Colour me impressed.

Think you might have just swayed my decision to get this, I assume there's nothing else as good at the same price?

This will be my first amp, at the moment I just have a simple decoder which works for audio but planning to move soon and would like to have something for a proper home cinema type setup.

Can anyone else confirm for me?

It's not exactly conveniant but I posted this a few days back:
Onkyo TX-SR575S 7.1 Channel Home Theatre Receiver (Silver) &
Onkyo TX-SR575 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) $219:97/£112:07

It's Amazon.com so there will be additional costs but it seems like an OK price to me.
