People Under The Stairs - Fun DMC - ?1.99 at Leeds Head/Zavvi, PLUS...

Fantastic album, proper feelgood heavy-beated hip hop, sealed copies available for ?1.99, plus they've got Blak Twang's latest and Rza's last Bobby Digital for the same price, as well as LOADS of other decent rap/indie/dance CDs going for the same price (Squarepusher's last CD, iirc, Mogwai, Scissor Sisters, too many to mention, or remember). Plus, loads of old, sealed US vinyl LPs for 49p, mainly souly/jazzy 80s stuff and power rock. Some good stuff for the price.

And, you can get Ice Cube's Death Certificate (uncensored with the bonus tracks) for a criminal ?2.99.

Oh, and they've got Wii No More Heroes for ?4.99, some great reductions on PS3 & DS games (I don't own a PS3, mind). They had PS3 Lost for ?2.99. Don't know if it's any good, but for ?2.99, who gives a Krapp's Last Tape.

So, yes, if you're in Leeds and haven't been there, pop into the old Virgin shop on Albion Street.

They ALSO have the Saw 2 2-disc DC DVD for ?1.66, which is pretty nice, even if I thought it was a pretty **** film.

I really like this shop, its ethos, idea of the place, it just flogs stuff (mostly) cheap, says "damn you" to organisation, other shops should emulate the way it handles its bizniss, it reminds me of when Fopp used to be ace. Having said that, why do I always get the feeling it'll shut down/change hands every time I shop in it?

    Anyway, find and enter it!

Hmm, gone off PUTS after their 'OST' effort, but gotta be worth a couple of quid I reckon. They're nice lads though so cheers for the barg spot bud.

OST wasn't that bad...Stepfather was a worse PUTS LP.

Fun DMC is a good album (better than the aforementioned Stepfather LP), but I don't think it compares well against PUTS classics like The Next Step, Or Stay Tuned & (my personal PUTS fave) Question In The Form Of An Answer.

Still, it is a good Hip-Hop LP, and ?1.99 is an absolute steal.

Agreed, there were quite a few good tracks on OST and Acid Raindrops is a banger - they used a Pete Rock/InI break far better than he did too!

I agree with you on this here. Still, better deals for us eh?

You are lucky to still have a store near. Won't be there long and all new stock is just stuff from other stores that have closed.

^Yeah, I went in today and bought a ****load of CDs for 99p a pop, asked the guy at the desk and he said the closing down date they'd been given was January 10th, but nobody was sure.

In terms of games, they didn't have that much special, mostly the same stuff they've had for weeks.

They DID have Chocobo Tales on DS for £3.99, Heavenly Sword on PS3 for £4.99 and this 360 High School Musical dance set (in a massive box) for £9.99.

CDs I got for 99p , most of which still have multiple duplicate copies still left in store:

Blak Twang - Speaking From Experience
Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll ('green' version with the 2 extra tracks)
Krust - Hidden Knowledge (w/bonus CD of early stuff)
Tony Touch - Making Moves With Touch
The Best Of Papoose: The Mixtape
              Mr Complex - Twisted Mister
              The Luniz - Operation Stackola
              Om Remixed (house comp)
Sounds Of Om Vol.6 (house comp)
Fat Joe - Jealous Ones Still Envy
Baby Blak - Once You Go Blak
Guesswhyld & Co. - Past, Present & Future (basically East Coast rappers like Talib Kweli, El Da Sensei etc.)
              Test Card Music 6
              Hospital Mix .2 Drum+Bass Selection
Snoop Dogg - Tha Shiznit Episode II (just a comp of well-known and obscure Snoop tracks)
F Com Essentials (French dancey stuff)

Also, in the upstairs bit, if you scour through the CD boxes near the balcony, you'll find two or three 99p sealed copies of Handsome Boy Modeling School's first CD, which is a ridiculously great buy.

AND, they've got both 2CD volumes of Death Row's Greatest Hits for £1.99 apiece.

PLUS, I got the series 2 DVD of Star Stories for a piddling £1.99.

^Actually, just listening to the Blak Twang CD. Initially, I felt a bit ashamed at paying 99p for it, "support your own" and that, but it's pretty wack. For a start, the tracklisting on the back of the case doesn't support the actual track order, so I'll just call everything "Track...", it's easier for me. On Track 13 now, Track 12 was pretty good, but it was about the only strong track I've heard so far.

Track 16's pretty smooth, also, but nothing substantially phat, Warren G and Snoop did them types of stuff way better 15 years back. Track 20 is pretty decent, but - again - not really an elevation of pre-existent stylings.

Yeah, pretty disappointed by it, even at 99p...

^Fat Joe's J.O.S.E. is totally spanking Blak Twang's arse, I thought it was gonna be smug RnB but it's decent, grandstanding hip hoppy stuff (so far)!

^That J.O.S.E. ended disappointingly, after the initial burst, but the album as a whole was quite sparky, MUCH better than that Blak Twank.

Gosh, I could get so Feger when it comes to CDs...!
