No more games costing over ?20...

I wasn't really sure whether this needed a separate thread and/or where to put it, so mods feel free to wave that wand.

I've managed to stop buying many games on day of launch now & wait until they drop in price. However, as seen by Nier today, some are dropping faster than ever. Is it more or less the case that most new releases eventually end up costing ?12.99 or less? Some games seem to fluctuate between ?20-?15 & then go to ?9.99.

I know certain Nintendo titles keep hold of their value, but even so called Limited Editions seem to end up at bargain prices. How do you know when a game is likely to drop any further?

I use Gamestracker to compare prices, monitor price drops and can get email alerts.

I use them as well. Damn handy, but with prices dropping faster & faster, I'm not even sure I can go with them 100%!

Having cancelled my Alan Wake LE & 3D Dot Heroes pre-orders, I'm now on a mission to only buy games when they're £20 or less. Bargains here we come. Although I have enough games already to keep me busy...

Go one further. Don't buy the game until you're ready to play it! That's what I'm trying to do at the moment. That way you don't break your rules on the odd occasion you want to pick up and play a game on day one (Like I'm thinking of doing for RDR - key thing here is to make sure you plan to play it of course!) and more often than not the game will be significantly less than £20.

Same with me now, I used to set myself a limit of £18, i.e. when the game dropped below that I'd play it. However, that's changed now. I got fed up of gamestracker and findgames missing out on real bargains so wrote my own util for scraping prices, and soon noticed that games regularly went closer to £10 than £20 so I'm now just going to wait until I need something to play before I buy again.

I do have about 15 unplayed games at home and I haven't bought a single game this year, so some catching up to do - you only need look at my xbox profile to see how far behind i am

I've been waiting for Uncharted 2 to go down for months and it has still kept it's value.

The first one is. I don't think the second is though...yet.

That would be quite some challenge! I could try...I suppose.

After reading that, I went & checked my unplayed games... *gulp*

I too generally don't buy games until I'm ready to play them. It was partly a gradual process of rationalisation of expenditure and also a reaction to the raising of prices by 'next gen' publishers at the outset of 360.

I started my gaming on home computers – specifically an Amiga 500 – so I was used to spending £35 max for a game. I was already paying over the odds, as I saw it, for console games, so when they organised the cartel and increased prices to £50 I took umbrage and vowed never again to spend more than £35 on a game.

What this means is that you never buy games at release and always have plenty left to purchase. You're not at the bleeding edge, but it's worth it!

I already never spend over ?20 unless I really want the game on launch day(rarely) or I have a hunch that it has a low print run.

I just really grudge full price when time and time again 99% of games seem to go half price or better within a couple of months.

That's one that usually gets me. 3D Dot Game Heroes is out this week and I'm tempted to pick it up for that reason.

Of course I still have my sealed copy of Valkyria Chronicles, which seems to have had a new print run if eBay is anything to go by.>_<

Are there any signs to look out for when this might be the case for a particular game? That's why I always used to buy on day of release as I'd be afraid it'd disappear never to be seen again except as R@RE! on eBay. I'm interested in trying out Sakura Wars on Wii, but can't really find ?25 for it at the moment.
