    [26/04/11] Criterion Collection Sale

I've just received an email from Criterion stating that Barnes & Noble are having a half price sale on their Criterion Collection blu-rays& DVDs until 1st August.

I've just ordered 8?, Walkabout & M at $19:99 (?13:00) each, I was charged $10:46 (?6:80) for international postage in total and they accept PayPal.

That's a total of $70:43 (?46.00) for three blu-rays delivered when I can pay ?35:00 to have one posted over from the US normally.

Barnes & Noble: 50% Off Criterion Collection

I'm very tempted to order more...

I thought it best to add also that these blu-rays are locked to Region A so you need a Region A compatible blu-ray player to watch them.

Region A includes most of North, Central and South American. Southeast Asian countries plus Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.

I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer that, seeing as these will be the first Criterion editions that I own, but I'll risk saying they're so expensive because they're labours of love, i.e., no corners are cut to save on production costs so the technical and contents quality is excellent.

Either that or because they have a really good marketing team...

Thought I'd update this thread, all thanks go to Escape-To-88 who PMd me about this.

They can take a bit of time to get here and you do have to pay postage but it's unlikely you'll find them cheaper. It doesn't say how long the sale lasts but I seem to think it was a whole moth last time but as they don't say it's best to be quick when ordering them.

How are they for marking up prices on parcels? Do they just put the value of item or include p&p on the printed price.
John have you been charged for any customs from b&n before?
Don't know to order more than 1 item at a time as I dont want a £10+ charge from royal mail!

I can't remember how they labelled them last time they had the sale but I ordered 3 or 4 at a time and I wasn't charged anything. When choosing the postage type you can choose to have everything sent together or when they are available, I chose the second one which was about $3 extra I think and I seem to remember I got them all separate.

I suppose if you're worried you could order them separately but of course you're paying more for postage like that.

                        Thanks John.
Do you have a seperate Region A blu ray player?
I'm a fan of the criterion DVD releases and with the many multi region DVD players its never been a problem, but multi region Blu ray players are expensive and not available from well know retailers it seems.

I originally had a multi-region player to go with my launch UK PS3 but bought a used US PS3 on here for ?150.

I had the Foehn & Hirsch player that was discussed here. You may still be able to find them and they were cheap enough when released although due to the small scale release it may not be as easy to find now.

Thanks (I think) for posting this John - I've just ordered seven Criterions I've been considering for ages, but have held off because they're too expensive. Worked out to £14.50 each including shipping.
