Wanted: Someone to fix a 360 drive

    Hi there,

I need the laser replacing in the disk drive of my Japanese 360.

It has stopped reading certain disks and I have been informed that it needs the laser swapping for a new one.

Is there anyone here that can change it?

I can send just the drive and will pay for all postage, the cost of the laser and labour.

If there is anyone that can help, drop me a pm.

    Cheers!

I'd reccomend Nick Pavey from here.

Taking the 360 apart seemed pretty easy when I did it - a little time consuming if you forget to put the eject button back on and have to open it again though

I didn't open the drive, but I took the drive out which is easy. I was putting the quieter fans in and modding the airflow.

      Nick is your man though.

        Thread bump!

I still need this doing and Mr. Pavey doesn't seem to be around these parts any more.

Is there anyone on here that can do it for me please?

As stated in the original post, all costs plus labour will be covered

        Cheers!

I've never done it before but I'm sure I could if you have nobody else more experienced

Will you just be swapping the drive for a replacement drive, or will you be stripping the drive down to components to swap the lasers?

If it's the former, try doing it yourself as it's pretty straightforward and there's a gazillion sites telling you how to do it.

I did the RRoD fix myself for less than a fiver and followed videos on YouTube.

I would try tweaking it first. If it is reading some discs then I would say it just needs adjusting again using one of the many guides available.

I tried switching the drive but that didn't work. Something about PCBs not being in sync.

I had no idea tweaking was a 'thing'. I'll look into it, cheers!
