One mechanic that comes straight to mind, is the camo-meter in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater.
You can slip into a more beneficial camo frock which matches your current surroundings.

Damn, watching my son play this today and by golly, it actually looks amazing. There's just more of everything in the city which gives it a more realistic look and vibe. Sunk about 3 hours into the PS5 version and am enjoying it immensely.
