Another World available for the Jaguar (one-off run)

The venerable platforming classic Another World is being brought to the Atari Jaguar and is available to pre-order for a (currently) one-off limited print run, to be produced around the middle of the year. The culmination of several years work it has been approved by the title's original creator, Eric Chahi, and includes both the original graphics and those from the updated 15th Anniversary release.

As this is likely to be a one time run if you want to secure y...

  • Game of the Year 2012 Staff Picks - Duncan

Game of the Year 2012 Staff Picks - Duncan

This year at Borders Down we've decided to cover each writer's favourite games of 2012 in their own articles, rather than trying to sandwhich them into a single hodge podge list. So
without further ado, let's kick things off:

While Capcom's internal efforts still struggle with schizophrenic design choices on the main, numbered Resident Evil line, Operation Raccoon City from Slant Six Games provided a pleasing return to the series' heyday. Taking things back to wh...

  • Halo - the revolution that came and went

Halo - the revolution that came and went

A not so long time ago, the height of game complexity was moving a paddle two ways on a single axis to block a bouncing ball. It was an impressive event. Since then games have evolved at an astonishing pace. Continually giving us more complex experiences with an increasing degree of interactivity. More and more options and choice we were given. More and more room to let our personality and traits determine how each one of us would play our games. For a long time, that was what both consumers d...

Impulse X available now for the Atari Jaguar

The long awaited release of Mathias Domin's Impulse X came this weekend at the Euro-Jagfest in Düsseldorf, with gamers able to purchase the full professionally packaged CD version for the first time. For anyone unfamiliar, Impulse X is an update of an old Atari release very much in the style of Breakout and Arkanoid. In addition to the pre-made levels the game also features a level editor with full Memory Track support so that you can save your creations.

    A follow up cartridg...

    Wii-U Unboxing Video

Bordersdown.net has a Wii-U unboxing video. It doesn't get any more exciting than this folks. We even go into detail on the exact specifications of the PSU.

In a blatant attempt to go viral, I've "accidentally" persuaded my cat to lounge around in the background.

So then, something for Nintendo fans, something for PSU geeks and something for cat lovers. If you fit in all three categories, please post in the comments!

  • Xbox 360 Advert Page (Dashboard) Rant

Xbox 360 Advert Page (Dashboard) Rant

In Q4 2012, Microsoft rolled out a new Dashboard for the Xbox 360. The first thing to notice after signing in (once it eventually loads) is that the Dashboard homepage is now a giant advertising hoarding. Microsoft claims only the small tile in the bottom right hand corner is an advertisement and the rest are "recommendations". I have no idea if this is true, but a recommendation to buy Battlefield Premium was pretty much useless since I already have Battlefield Premium.

  • Doujin Fighters

    Doujin Fighters

Fight! Fight! Fight! The crowd’s synchronised chanting resounded in my ears. I clenched my fists as we squared off from opposite sides of the circle that had formed around us. The lunchtime sunshine was so hot it was making the tar of Naylands Junior’s schoolyard melt – the acrid odour hanging in the air like the smell of impending battle. My eyes locked with my opponent’s and it was a fight or flight moment. My heart skipped a beat at the empty hatred in his eyes, the clear determinati...

  • Forza Horizon Launch Event

    Forza Horizon Launch Event

It's not very often that I'm invited to the launch of a game, but such an invitation dropped into my inbox in the past week and because it was for one of the most anticipated releases of 2012, Forza Horizon; it seemed like a great opportunity. Too great in fact to pass up. So off to London I set; First Class on Virgin Trains from Glasgow Central on a one thousand mile round trip with great anticipation. Upon arrival, there was a nice sense of anticipation as everyone lined up outside the hotel, ...

    UnoTelly UnoDNS Gold Review

The World Wide Web is an amazing tool that destroys the boundaries between countries and continents and allows everyone to access information from wherever they are in the world. Except that's not always true. Perhaps you've visited a website or tried to purchase a video game and been met by the message "this content is not available at your location", or even worse, you've been shown content that's different depending on where you live without you ever realising. At this point it becomes just "Your...

  • Shigeru Miyamoto Wind Waker Interview 2006

Shigeru Miyamoto Wind Waker Interview 2006

It's 9.30 on a Saturday morning. We're in North West London and it's cold. Very cold. Strangely, though, all this information seems to be a distant echo as the realisation of the moment starts to dawn. We're sitting here in a small café-come video store eating toasted panini and coffee and discussing what questions to ask Shigeru Miyamoto in an interview one hour from now. Shigeru Miyamoto. One hour. Think about it. What questions would you ask him? The enormity of the situation is slowly d...

  • Radiohead KID A MNESIA Exhibition - Report
    by Adrian Purser
Appearing recently on digital storefronts, this digital exhibition coincides with the 20th anniversary re-release and bringing together of Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac albums. It's been made in collaboration between the band and Epic Games, though it's also very quick to tell you that it is not a game, epic or otherwise. That, I think, is a mixture of nervous expectation-setting, alongside its creators selling both games, and what they've created, short.
Unless you're one of those sorts...

  • Datel Freeloader Review - Action Replay Gamecube Region Free disc
    by Charles R
Once upon a time, there was a Freeloader. It was late, as usual, but everyone waited with baited breath, because it promised much.

And so it came to pass, the Freeloader finally arrived, and oh what gifts it brought. The ability to de-zone everyone's Gamecubes. Finally, an easy (and cheap) way for anyone in the world to play games from anywhere else in the world. It was welcomed with open arms.
Datel, after many delays, have now released their de-zoning disc. Twice. The f...

  • Goldeneye N64 Retrospective
    by Archives
Describing the greatness of Goldeneye isn't the easiest task in the world. If you were to show it to a gamer who has recently been showered with PC First Person Shooters such as Far Cry, then they'd scoff at the low-polygon landscapes, the poor digitised textures of Robbie Coltrane and the frame rate equivalent to the IQ of a table leg. They'd be missing the point though, as levels such as "Surface" are the forebears to Far Cry's grand vistas.
Which leads us nicely into one of the reaso...

  • TGS 2003 - Tokyo Game Show Report
    by Archives
As a first visit to any kind of games show, it was going to be very interesting to see what all the fuss was about. I remember reading about the Tokyo Game Show among other shows in magazines years back and having a sense of delight and amazement. Did you ever dream of going to a game show in Japan? I'm sure it's something most avid gamers can associate with. On Sunday the 28th of September, my wife and I headed towards Makuhari messe from western Tokyo, a journey of 2 hours. When we finally ...
