    Killzone demo

Got the new OPS2 mag thru the door today. Forgot this was going to be on there tbh.
The demo is rather short but gives you enough to get the feel of it.
Controls felt right which is a must with a FPS. Graphically its decent enough with very drab colour schemes portraying a bombed out warzone.
Guns feel nice and kills feel like they're hitting something solid.
It does feel kinda slow but this is just a brief taster of an early level, so hopfully things will heat up significantly as the game progresses.
Its certainly much better than those awful movies that came out around E3.

To sum up i would say it will be an excellent PS2 FPS, but if it was on XBox or PC it would probably be not much more than just another FPS.

How is the framerate and A.I. in the demo?
And what?s the gameplay like when you compare it to Halo in higher diffculty settings? (slow, strategic, big levels, A.I. fun to fight against ....)

      How atmospheric is it?

I once saw a level with no music in it, just the sound FX, it really helped the atmosphere of the game, and on this one there will hopefully be an option to switch off the music...

I was on the beta for this online and I thought it was the biggest pile of steaming ****e - a major let down - it had a crap engine that rendered the people before the scenery so you could see people floating on mid air- if you walked closer to them the building that they were on would be rendered.

I'll say the same thing I said when you moaned about it last time Neil, it was a BETA.

And lots of people loved it then, too.

I think you should hate Nintendo for that one.

Played it, thought it was okay-ish. Graphics are good for a PS2, nice and atmospheric with some nice bloom effects. Frame rate reasonably solid 30fps, and some nice little bits of detail here and there. No special effects to speak of.

Sound effects are really good. From the Saving Private Ryan school of distant explosions and crackling gunfire. Very nicely done.

As a game, well it's an FPS. Nothing new to see here. Good for a PS2 but would be lost on Xbox or especially PC. Control feels rather dead but that's par for the course on those useless PS2 thumbsticks.

All in all a good effort, but I personally don't really care.

A lot of Sony fanboys sucked in by the hype loved it you mean, doesn't make it any better than the steaming pile of turd that it was.

Yes it was the beta, but beta is 'feature complete' and unfortunately if the game is next to no fun at this stage in development its difficult to raise any sort of hope for when it is finally released.

I'm hoping the 1001 problems present from the beta have been fixed/improved and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the demo to see what has changed, but I've heard more negative comments than positive so far from the demo.

Overhyped game, PS2 can't do FPS. Better off waiting for Timesplitters 3.

Sheesh, if you're so keen to label someone a fanboy for enjoying a game then it's pointless reasoning with you. I can't help but suspect your argument is a little biased, judging by your choice of avatar.

Jumping to conclusions I see. You don't know me and neither do you know my gaming preferences, and I like to think I post my opinions without any form of bias (which for the majority of the time I reckon I do). Yes I like Halo, I also like a variety of other FPS's on a variety of platforms but why should this affect my opinion on Killzone other than it pales in comparison to my other experiences?

I really wanted to like the game, but found both the fundamental mechanics and elementary design decisions lacking consistancy and balance. I am still prepared to give the game a fair chance as I have yet to sample to finished product, but because I've had to opportunity to play easlier versions of it I see no reason why I can't have my own opinions based on what I have played so far.

And if you have ever had the 'pleasure' to access the beta forums you would understand by what I meant by 'Sony fanboys'.

I don't visit the forums but mainly because of SweetDaddyG. That guy does my head in. And I thought Killzone was a right laugh. I didn't pay much attention to fundamental mechanics or elementary design decisions. But I enjoyed it. Especially that exploding shells handgun... KABOOM!
