the fact you can fly a trick biplane, to a news chopper to a commercial aircraft to an apache gunship make it fantastic

or just get a helicopter to the highest building and base jump

might play it again - will need to get the xbox from the loft though

            Spatial, I demand a new next-gen adventure write-up come October, dammit. :P

What I loved about the countryside was tearing around at something like 80mph on a dirt bike and jumping off all the hills and the bumps. The change in space and size was superb.

Yip, it was actually reading through this thread which made me realise what I'd missed out on.

Time will tell I guess, but I hope so

It was one of my defining moments of the game tbh and pretty much user driven. Aspects of it all seemed to come together at the right time to make it one of my most memorable personal gaming moments of last gen.

That and trying to transport some washed out Mancunian pop star across the desert while he was busting for the toilet, him not being able to hold it in and bailing out the car to take a slash in the middle of the road.

That was a real traffic stopper I can tell you.

While I do think GTA4 is going to be astounding in it's own way, I can't see it allowing for the same free form adventures which you could have in the countryside ! I still feel dropping that type of area is a major mistake !

Going to have to leave this thread, I could talk San An all night !

nah they have got to be there somewhere

that made it a much better game - the freedom you had

jump in a lear jet and fly yourself to the other side of the map, you could either land it or take it vertical so it stalled and just jump out with your parachute

worked the camera to watch the jet land on some unluckly blighters, same with the helicopters, just take it up as high as she will go and then jump out

sad but true, even taking the rescue helicopter up and jumping out just as you are over the beach so you can land in the water without dying, then try again but in more shallow water

                    even.......

land the helicopter on the water and let it sink to the sea bed, just to see if you could hold your nerve and remain inside as long as you could

i did have a lot of fun with this

                      **edit**

Am seriously addicted to this now. I just can't believe the scale of the city and surrounding countryside. Superb fun, especially by motorbike.

I've taken over my first "hood", do I get specific missions to take over other gang areas, or can I just steam on in and start killing gang members?

Steam on in and just start killing rival gang members, to start a turf war.

Once you cover a lot of the area, rivals attack it to try and reclaim it, it becomes a bit of a pain in the arse to defend it all the time.

Just reading through this thread again has made me so happy. SA was such a good game. I spent hours days and weeks playing it constantly, so much fun, so much different stuff to do. The most complete and varied game ever.

Its a shame that alot of this will probably be out the window for GTA IV too.

Thanks Miguel. I might give the gang stuff a miss just now as I'm having so much fun exploring and doing the odd mission for Loc.
