Why bother posting in the thread then? Oh, probably to get a heated reaction. Stop trolling...

I played this for about 3 hours last night, and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I'm still struggling in the same areas that I struggled in the previous two games - car chases and chases on foot. Especially chases on bikes...

I find the map extremely unhelpful (though I like the colour-coded mission objectives), and as someone previously mentioned, finding your home is very difficult to do. I've put the Marker on the map perminately on my home now, which makes it easier (press circle when on the big map).

The lightweight RPG elements work very well I think, and I'm really keen on improving my character just because. I'm also really impressed with the burglaries, and although so far I've only done the one (as part of the plot), it was good fun and tense.

Currently I have a choice of about 4 missions and they are all kicking my arse. These GTA games are pretty difficult, aren't they?

Played this a while last night, bored to tears I was, steamingly tedious, exactly the same dynamic as the previous games, which while entertaining, is just dull now. Sure they've tidyed it up a bit, graphics a bit nicer, but when me and my buddy can't get through the first few missions initially because of the ropey camera, it doesn't bode well. After that initial stumbling point, we rolled through the missions....chase guy, run away from guy, kill some guys....yawn.

And the Map, blimey, is that the most indisquinshiable load of nonsense you've ever seen? a pale yellow blob shows you where to go, which is kinda the same as "Cluckin' Bell", especially when the target is "below you".

          Luckily my friend bought it.

played the game yesterday briefly at a friend's house.
Couldn't spot any 60hz option anywhere, so I'm considering buying a ntsc copy.
But does anybody know how big the game is, i.e. is it on a DVD9 disc?
I got pal ps2 with the crappy flip top lid / swap magic disc, which won't accept DVD9 discs. And if i could get the the game to work with the flip top, it would be alot cheaper than importing a ntsc pstwo for the sake of a ntsc san andreas.
Also, while playing pal san andreas yesterday,i thought it felt "50hz-ish", like the whole pacing of the game felt slightly too slow(PAL devil may cry 1 style).
Not that you won't get used to it, surely. I'd just prefer a ntsc version with 60hz.

So, anybody know about the game size?

just chiping in with my 2p

The PAL version and the NTSC version are pretty far apart IMO PAL is slightly bordered and seems slower no 60hz option as far as i can see. Where as ntsc is full screen and runs quicker.

Saves are imcompatible between versions as well (damn NTSC YAR ahem)

So anyone who has the YAR version (or the original NTSC version) the saves are imcompatible with the PAL version, YAR or otherwise

enjoying the game though can be a little frustrating (specially the firetruck and ambulance missions) but there is more than enough to do.

              Enormous fun

A gripe i do have with it though is the map screen where your always having to go to start-map all the time to find your homepoint as it isn`t very defined on the small game map. Is there a way at zooming your map while playing as i recall you could on vice city?
Press R2/L2 to zoom in and out. You can press x to get the legend up and as Pete said, press 'O' to place a target over your desired destination which will then show you which way to go on the radar (very helpful). heh Singho, didnt use cheats (didnt wanna mess up my game like SOMEONE).

                  t-dog, I dont think its a DVD9 disc.

The stat building (imo) works well, it is entirely optional, sure you want to be muscular and everything but it's not essential. As time progresses you'll find your stats will increase as you play the game (stamina from running/swimming), but its not like its that much of a chore to do anyway - I got from like 1/4 muscle to maximum in 3days.

                    Look at the disc. If it's gold, it's a DVD9. If it's silver it's a normal 4.7GB DVD.

                    I think.

Are you Japanese? Do you "talk like that"? I find that incredibly hypocritical and, frankly, racist.

Anyway, while the game is obviously trying to replicate the setting and characterisations of movies like Boyz n the Hood, I find it a bit of an awkward comparison personally. While the movie was about how wrong violence in the ghetto is, San Andreas is about perpetuating black-on-black violence...
And you sir, are an idiot.

So, despite having a variety of global heritages in my blood, and having lived happily all over the world, and am currently studying Japanese (so yes, I bloody well can talk like that), and get along amiacably with the variety of nationalities found at my Uni, I am, in your ever so wise and superior opinion, a racist solely because I choose not to enjoy a particular variety of "culture" that is often associated with people of African descent, but is not exclusive to them?

Well let me inform YOU, that there are plenty of impovrished white and Asian people in American suburban ghettos, there is a large vietnamese and korean population, not to mention the hispanic population in these poor areas. So well done Popo, YOU are the racist! You have just gone and marginalised every racial group that can be found in such areas into those of African descent, purely to have a racist dig at me.

I, simply do not like the ghetto scenerio, which is what I was trying to say, and was being honest when I told you that I find it difficult to relate to a main character whose background is so wholey different to mine.

If he were Polish I could understand it better, but I believe there would be others would be alienated by this.

I am always amused when people can jump to such conclusions simply because someone has a different opinion. I don't like urban ghetto culture, get over it.

Oh, and I also find it hard to relate to games where the main charatcer is overtly a woman, simply because I am not a woman. I guess in your book, that would make me a chauvenistic sexist?

Hold on a minute, I'm a chauvinistic sexist by my own decleration and proud of it.... erm, so just scratch that last point, and remember, play nice.

The way I see it Rockstar are making a GTA for every one.

GTA 3 ? is for the white boys.
                        GTAVC ? is for the 30 something?s.
GTASA ? is for black kids.

Im still waiting on a new GTA London myself.

                        Edit:
But really I don?t think I have ever ?related? to a games character, because I never have anything in common with them.

Either way who can really argue that all 3 GTA games on the PS2 have been awesome!

I've played about 7% of SA now and I am starting to get into it more. Once you get out the city you start the map is better. I definately agree that because the map is so big you can't memorise certain locations, roads etc. and this does make you feel like playing in a maze (getting lost) which is a bad thing. But I'm sure the more you play the game and get used to the map everything will become good.

....About six hours in, mostly fidlling about, searching hidden packages which probably aren't even there....

                            The Bad:
As someone who has completed GTA3 and VC numerous times (both on ps2) I have to say that after initial play I considered taking it back to the shop. No digital controls for the car was the first thing that hit me.
Next a heat haze effect which to me is just "Trails on" without the option to turn it of. Can't see a bloody thing sometimes combined with the framerate/ frameskips.
A new and admittedly improved car handling model but the cars seem to have gotten bigger which combined with the first problem is making me drive like a drunk.
Never had I any problem with the aiming in the previous games, I was a legit mass murderer who was invulnarable without using cheats. This time around I'm shooting as much bullets in the air as I am shooting innocent civilians while getting nailed by that lone gangster with a Mac 10.

                            The Good:
Man this game is huge. GTA3 gave you the feeling of being in a city but it didn't last too long. SA is like a real world and I have a feeling it's going to take a serious amount of time discovering it's tons of secrets (a week, a month ?).
The atmosphere so far is absolutly wonderfull. Los Santos feels much more alive and all the small talk with my fellow 'gangsta's' had me in permanent LOL mode. The way this gels with the voice acting and naturally amazing soundtrack and radio chatter is simply stunning.

While it may look like there's a lot of bad I'm hugely enjoying this. If somebody could tell me if there are any hidden packages though, that be much appreciated...

Did anyone notice the map you get with the game has the easy tear lines.
Im not sure what you call them, but it?s a dotted line that makes things easy to rip out.

Why would they to that? Just so you rip your map and have to buy a new one
