Just finished this game about 10 minutes ago and what an ending. Probably for me the best ending seen on a videogame to date. Overall though what can i say it`s a great game to watch but to play i thought the stealth sections were lacking slightly and didn`t take to the lack of radar to well. But on the flip side there are some great boss battles in there especially the final show down and what a graphical marvel for the ps2 aswell. For me though this has by far the best story and characters to date of all the MGS series but as for the stealth sections i think the original is overall the best of the bunch.

I finished the game yesterday on hard in about 24 hours (that is mostly gametime by the way) and overall, I would say this is now my fav Metal Gear
I loved the graphics, I didn't even know the PS2 could do this sort of stuff. And "The End" is the best boss ever followed closely by "The Boss".
A few "pros" & "cons"
Pro's
CQC
The Graphics are some of the best ive seen
Music is excellent
The End & The Boss
Story
Camo
Lots of toys to play around with
High replay value
The last few hours
Con's
Voice acting was a bit of letdown (did you know "The Boss" was supossed to have a British accent)
The Fear boss fight was pretty akward and anoying
More stealth sections in the jungle were needed
CQC could have been better (maybe in the next game)
Cure & food system was a bit crap and anoying
I was kind of dissapointed with the whole "Jungle" setting. I was hoping you could do more than just crawl in grass, hide in a tree trunk, climbing a tree (this wasn't even needed) then stand on one branch.
What happend to that Rambo esque scene when walking through the river with flare shots lighting the sky with gunfire everywhere. And the jumping off the waterall thing.
I still think its an excellent game but it could of been better imo.
8/10

CQC gets better the more you use it.
I?m currently on my third playthrough (Hard) and CQC flows very natural.
However, the first time I did not even bother to use it.
Did you try to give "The Fear" [Spoiler?] food poisoning?
Once you have done that the fight can get very amusing if you continue to "feed" him.
And of course the fight is easier with the thermal goggles equipped.
Overall I think MGS3 is a marvelous game.
It is much, much better than I thought it could ever be.
There are so many little things that can be done and different ways of "clearing" a room (area)... it is just very impressive what Kojima and his team have accomplished with this game.

Right.
Got my hands on the PAL version.
First off, no 60hz
Just think MGS2 PAL conversion. Since MGS3 has a lower framerate the PAL version kinda gets icksome, more so than the NTSC version. Not by a huge amount, but still only at jungle at the moment.
There are newer face camo that you start off with. It's just mainly the flags of some of the EU countries (UK/ France/ Spain) as well as JPN/ USA/ U.S.S.R.
The sound skipping seems to have been cured. Since during the first codec with 'The Boss' it's definitely noticeable.
Again, when initiating a codec conversation, there was always around 3 to 4 pregnant pauses in the background noises before the codec conversation starts, before it then sorts itself out and sounds proper.
Now with the PAL version, it's a smooth transition and no pregnant pauses.
Also portrait transitions seem more responsive (when multiple people talk within your codec conversation) as before in the USA version it used to lag quite a bit when channging pics.
On the subject of skippy video sections within the codec convo's
There is some slight skipping, but definitely in the USA version it skipped far more chunks of the video than the PAL version does.Last edited by jimtendo; 03-03-2005, 12:31.

My copy arrived today. Seriously you all need to go and get this game, I can't believe no ones been talking about it yet... oh... wait...
Three hours in and its pretty good so far. Lack of radar or not, its nice to see that my stealth skills are just as crap as they were during MGS2. I'm about as silent as a fully equipped one man band
I think I also need to put some CQC practice in. I keep killing them before I get a chance to do anything else
