Yes. I'm still waiting. I'm assuming it'll come either today or tomorrow.

To get back to the discussion at hand, I'm playing through Twin Snakes now, and I did intend to complete MGS 2 as well so both games could lead on nicely into Snake Eater when it arrives. But having come off the back of the dreamy way in which Half-Life 2 integrated its narrative into the core gameplay, I'm finding this somewhat of a struggle. I'm not even sure if I'll have the urge to go through MGS 2 again considering its use of cutscene direction is even more plentiful.

I never thought I'd be saying this about a Metal Gear title, considering the invention Kojima and his team usually put into the series, but I'm finding the mechanics of MGS extremely outdated. The narrative is just kind of bolted on to the play experience at hand, and that's creating a very disjointed experience so far.

These are old criticisms of course, but the two main contasting styles clearly contradict each other and serve to unbalance the immersion levels for me...

Perhaps it's just because I don't have the patience to sit through ten-minute preaching philosophical cut scenes anymore. I don't know.

I agree about the banal cutscenes/codecs. Very wooden and much like the chat in Off-Topic (mostly bollox).

Weaving a story is one thing but endless drivel chat which just seems to be there to please the fans of Kojima/MG, the 'in' jokes and references just get a little wearing.

Gametime being split between this, Halo2 and GTA:SA, each with the own merits, this being the least attractive to just dip in and out of.

Sounds like im around the same place as you... the bond esk intro is ace... all the fading backgrounds, snakes and werid visuals.. very well put together..
The story is very good so far, "THE BOSS" with her backstabing, and continual Twating of Snake... Hand held Recoil-less Nuke launcher WTF!!, teh gear.. And teh referances to "naked Snake" becoming big boss throughout..

All very enjoyable and so far much better than MGS2 and teh gay lead character

Just confirming that there are audio skips on about 4/5 codec scenes nr the start. (Snake/Boss/Tom scenes).

They seem to have rectified the slowdown and frame dropping that was present in the demo too. However it is still locked to 30fps during gameplay. (unlocked during cutscenes, strangely).

You also get a nice little comic strip in the manual.

Does anyone else think that the soundtrack to this game is pretty good ?

Just recieved my copy of the Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater single which has some tracks from the game on it - the Snake Eater remix of the main Harry Gregson Williams MGS theme is fantastic, particularly the spanish guitar bit ( and the bit from the E3 video where Snake fights The Pain ).

For all those that have it, is the soundtrack of the whole game any good ?

I love the intro screen to MGS3 showing Snake's combat moves against the Russian soldiers I've only played the game for a bit but can't help but feel the overhead camera is better suited to the smaller environment of Metal Gear Solid 1&2 than the open jungle areas of this game.

i think they deliberately lef tthe camera a little awkwad so you have to move a little slower. I like the fact that the game forces the stealth on you a bit more than in the previous games. I'm also glad to see its a little easier than the trial edition.
I especially like the first person vire in cutscenes thing, it comes in very usefull....

                        heheh

I cracked up when I did that for the first time

That is ****ing awesome stuff. You can do all sorts of crazy **** on that screen, just like the other Metal Gears. However that ISN'T the PROPER intro

                          SNAAAAAAAAAKKKEEE EAAAAAAATTTEEERRRRRRRRR!!

I know... that Bond inspired video was godawful. Where's a vomit emoticon when you need one?

I think also the title screen uses the current snake model that you are using in game. I need to test it, but I think it does, as it was 'blindingly' obvious on my title screen

On a side note, The End boss fight ranks as the most nerve wracking boss fight in history.

Is it better than MGS? I kind of enjoyed MGS2 but it felt much more like a rental, I can't decide if MGS3 is worth importing or not.
