finishing the boss with the tranq gun does get you the Sneaking Suit, right?
Not quite. For finishing 'The Boss' with the tranq gun you get the 'Snake' suit supposedly the best overall camoflague or something.
The Sneaking suit is in the locker where you put 'Ivan Raikov' on your second visit to the base. Also of note just near that suit in another locker is the 'Mechanic' suit too.

Question about a camosuit, end game spoiler:
What's the point of the Snake Camoflauge? I know it's supposed to be good camo index and increased crawling speed or something, but there's no game after killing The Boss, except for the Ocelot bit on the plane which doesn't require it. Do all your suits carry over to your next game or something?

Yeah, when you save after the end credits and start a new game from that save, all the camos you found are carried over.

What is it with Foxhound that makes people go bad and/ or insane? First it's Big Boss who goes traitor, then Grey Fox goes mad and becomes a robot ninja, according to Metal Gear Confidential there's a character in MG2:SS called Miller who is presumably the same Master Miller from MGS who is in fact LIQUID SNAKE was was a member of Foxhound until he betrayed them, along with his mates Vulcan Raven, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Decoy Octopus, and the less said about Revolver Ocelot the better. And then there's dear old Col. Campbell, a man so confused by it all he denies his very own existence and becomes a malfunctioning AI program. "I need scissors... SIXTY ONE!!" indeed.
I need to get back to MGS3 right now.

At least Kojima sorted the stupid 'we're either ET Aliens or AI' crap that MGS 2 came out with towards the end in regards to the patriots. It's quite clear that the patriots were just the a branch of the philosopher's legacy, and power hungry fools. When Snake mentions they died a hundred years ago in MGS 2, he was probably talking about the founding members.
That's why The Boss' grave is important on the end marking the death of 'the patriot'. The voice over even says, she is a true patriot.
And therein lies the distinction. The patriots in MGS 2 are nothing more than the keepers of a power hungry ideology devised during the second world war.

But that wasn't the real colonel campbell. It was the AI the patriots set up to filter information on the net so they could control the flow of it more effectively. When a virus is uploaded into it towards the end of the game (I think by Emma) it starts malfunctioning, hence the excuse for lots of medium-questioning twists.
Such as "Turn the games console off now."
"You'll wear your eyes out too much by playing."
"How long have you been playing? Don't you have anything else better to do?"[

You can also use the chaff grenades to knock out the soldier's radios. If you're quick you can take them out before the effect wears out and stop them calling for backup.
In MGS2, that trick didn't work so well as the bad guys had communications checks every two minutes or so. In Snake Eater, no one is sent to investigate

Cool, I'll give that a try.
Two other odd things: second time through, Snake seems to get tired a lot quicker and I have to feed him far more frequently. Anyone else noticed this?
The other thing is, when I save a game it seems to save it one day ahead of the current date. The date on my PS2 config is correct, but MGS seems to think it's tomorrow. Idiot.
