Naruto: Gekitou Ninjataisen 3

This just arrived in today, complete with a little Naruto wallet (wtf?), and a plastic Shuriken and a little Orochimaru who's now sitting on my monitor

Only played 2 or 3 fights so far, and it's pretty much the same as Naruto 2, except there's an absolutely MASSIVE character roster this time around. Naturally, they aren't all selectable from the start, but Jiraiya is! \o/ He's absolutely HUUUUUGE in the game too! His special is the frog summon, then dual fireball, it's great!

Well, on to trying to unlock the rest of them characters...

Two short but important questions.
Is it like an upgrade of Ninja Taisen 2, same game (sort of) with more characters?
Is Itachi playable?

I got mine today too, but I got a mini Tsunade but no other stuff

Yeah it's like an upgrade Zanz, plays identicle to #2 but some characters have been tweaked/changed slightly, ie you get Sharinghan Sasuke as default Sasuke now with the black suit and you can use the sharinghan in the fight to change your special from Lion Combo to the Chidori. Naruto uses the Rasengan when you have less than 40% health I think, very cool. I read you can play as Itachi but you have to buy him from Ankos shop, I think you get her too! Also, a bit cheap but Anko lets you carry over any money you have spare from your Naruto 2 save file. I took over 20k but I dunno if that's a good idea you know? I wanna play more not less.

the narator/commentator or whatever you call it is Kabuto now instead of the third hokage and Sakura does the menus instead of Naruto. Some of the music is the same as the 2nd game but there is plenty of new stuff. The anime intro is very high quality, puts Anbu subs to shame hehe. Good stuff

I haven't seen the Rasengan but the different supers add loads to the game! For example, do to Sasuke's Chidori you have to press Down + X to do the Sharingan, then after your tension has been regained you hold X to charge the Chidori. Love the multiple supers.

The Mission Mode is fantastic this time around - you have certain conditions for each stage, which all relate to the anime. It starts in the Chuunin exam, and goes through all the battles there. I've yet to finish it, so I don't know how long it is. For example, with the Sasuke vs Gaara fight, you have to use the Chidori once, then use a fully-charged Chidori to win It's well hard, but really fun, and puts the originals to shame.

Apart from that, it's business as usual with slightly modified charaters, and a buttload of extra ones too. Which is always fun ^_^

btw Adam, you can use the original Sasuke by pressing X or Z on the menu screen IIRC.

ahh yeah it's prolly that guy! forgot about him, thought it was Kabuto heh. What I ment by Sasuke is that he still has some cheap moves which only Sharingan Sasuke had in number 2, he is quite a strong character maybe a bit too strong

your right about story mode, it rocks big time. Can tell what what they are saying aswell cause it's all based on the various anime events and knowing a little japanese helps.

I noticed the buffer into specials too, the comp did it on me on the default difficulty. I usually up that a bit cause it's pretty easy but the AI is top notch, fighting with intelligence.

got this today. being my first naruto game, i dont really know whats going on yet, but its pretty good fun.
it feels a bit simplistic at the moment, but i guess thats just because its new to me. i'm just hammering away on B all the time. the A attacks seem to take too long to come out. but i'm loving seeing the speacials.
infact the whole thing looks really cool, although i wish the stages were a bit bigger.

got my freebies from playasia too. an orochimaru figure, and some weird thingy...if its a wallet, its got the smallest money/card compartment ever. infact i'm not even sure a card would even fit. it looks cool though, i got the itachi(?) one, with the line through the symbol

I love the multiple characters in the game though. Kankurou is just fantastic, I love getting people to beat up the doll instead of me >_< I know he was in the second one, but it never gets old!

So far I've unlocked Kankurou and Kiba. Off to unlock some more now.

Ah it's finally out. I've been waiting for this a while, I was going to order part 2 but then I heard this would be released so I decided to wait. Does it work without problems on a PAL cube with freeloader?

Now I've unlocked:

Tenten, Zabuza, Kiba, Kankurou, and Gaara. Sure I've got one more, but I really can't remember, the roster is that huge.

Playing as the Third Hokage is AWESOME!! His super is quite amusing.

I've been playing with Rock Lee a lot today, open the two gates, pull off his super (very hard, as his health depletes constantly with two gates open) and it's INSTANT DEATH!!! for the opponent. Quite amusing.

I've also noticed how much better the AI is in this incarnation. The CPU will actually do proper juggles, with Iruka and Orochimaru being complete bastards when they want to be. The throw distance has been reduced in this one as well, so it's actually quite useful as you can throw then move in quickly for a juggle. With the previous two games, you had to throw them against the edge of the arena and then juggle, as you couldn't quite reach far enough to get them before.

I NEED MAITO GAI!!! He's so cool in the story mode, especially with his "DYNAMIC ENTRY!!" move.

ahh still waiting for my copy, this is the 1st naruto game im getting, i heard the 3vs3 thing was, well... kinda crap, that was the only reason i waited for 3 instead if 2(i had no info on the game then) oh well guess its worth the wait though, now next time dont use the free shipping or go2 playasia, stupid me

Got pretty far on this now, I like it a lot more than the 2nd game too.
Agree with Tom on the story mode being more fun than the last game but it would be almost impossible to figure out what to do if you didn't have a translation guide.

Does the story mode stay true to the manga? I only read the manga as Chinese translation, just want to know how much that might help

Won't be getting this title anytime soon, though. Too many blockbusters, too little time...
