Are there any CGI cut scenes in the main game? Played this for six hours now and not seen any. I'm not too fussed, but it seems strange that they'd have one at the beginning.

      Nope...

There're no pre-rendered movies aside the intro... All cinematics during the game use real-time rendering. ^_^

Are all your characters getting this?

I'm getting a similar thing happen with Kalas and I think it's died in with the duel sword/blade card he has.

Only happens with Kalas i think. Their occurrence is pretty random... i don?t think it is based on any particular set of cards you use...

?But rather the relationship between you (the guardian) and Kalas. Obviously the deeper the connection (which is dependent on how you answer some questions at specific points) the more often these special cards open up

I'm a fair way through this now... and am really really enjoying it. It starts off very slow - and feels a little... well, cheesy and a bit meh. but it soon becomes quite an experience. Just need to get this review done now!

I guess you all know there's a DS version in the works
I'm really enjoying this now and it just keeps getting better. I'm holding off going past Mira for now, just to make sure I've sucked the place dry of usefull magnus(I missed a couple of constelations on previous islands and Gibari's level 4 finishing move hope I can still pick them up somehow)

              Battles and Combining/Cooking

There are 2 things that bother me and i thought i share them with you.

              1. Battles can take AGES. This is not necessarily bad since i love a good fight but even if you go back to an area with easier monsters to gain some experience or grab a few of the rarer magnus the fights still take a long time. There is no such thing as defeating a group of monsters in 1 turn (it happens but only 1 in 100 if you have a sick hand of attack cards). It sometimes really bothers me.

              2. Combining/Cooking is really getting complex. To some extend impossible since the ingredients are rotting away faster than you can say 'strawberry-cheese-cake'. You can spend hours creating ingredients for more complex magnus combinations so your deck has enough for the complex combo to show up. I sure hope you can travel around freely later into the game to grab some of the fresh ingredients.

Don't get me wrong. The game is incredibly well balanced. I never got into a situation where i would have to load an older savegame to level up before beating up that next 'Boss'. It's challenging but fair.

              Cheers,

              Sascha

The review is done now so should hopefully be up shortly...

It's interesting to read that those things bother you buddy. The length of the battle, for me personally, hasn?t at all become bothersome... so such a negative isnt mentioned in the review (tbh it didnt even enter my head to mention the battle length! heh. Compared to some RPGs the battles are actually quite short....)

Out of interest, how far are you in the game? I found that once my characters had reached around half way, it didnt take long to defeat a group of monsters in a single turn. Obviously when things get tougher its not so easy to do so, but... generally speaking, as long as your deck management is good, there shouldn?t be too many overly-long battles... And, well, the battles which are long I found really exciting and tense

                Also concerning the combining/cooking cards...

I haven?t spent a great deal of time focusing on this part of the game (as it really is quite a time consuming addition, which is great for adding even more gameplay). Of course only certain cards can be created through the use of experimentation of combos, but... none are compulsory to the adventure so, well, i don?t let it bother me ^_^

Anyhoo, glad you are enjoying it. I think it?s an excellent game? it does have a few little niggles ? but overall? I?m loving it. ^_^

Still ploughing through this at the moment and it's bloody fantastic. Just reached a real twist on the second disc that has left me completely dumbfounded.

Currently around 22 hours into it and I don't want this ****er to end. I'm having no problem at all with the length of battles and the card system is one of the most refined I've ever used. It's a wonderful little game that will hopefully receive a UK release at some point.

One thing though, do you make the recipes by using them in battle or is there another way to mix them together?

Finally was able to sit down and start playing this properly yesterday

Noticed how quickly some things "grow" and need to adjust accordingly (ie. don't sell off your bamboo shoots you have spare). Am I right in thinking only the cards in your deck "age"?

Also a couple of times whilst playing, I've put in a 1-2 combo and then another card in my hand has suddenly changed into something new, a card I don't actually have currently either spare or stock to "finish" the combo up to 3? Weird... unless my eyes are going funny... it was something to do with "demon spirit" attack and did massive damage (I think the total was 173).

Just to quantify, I'm up to the part where you are about to take the ship off the city (just after rescuring Xelha from the mansion). Missed doing the yoghurt/cheese subtasks, but they'll wait...

Completed this last night, I must say being an RPG fan I wasn?t sure I would like the card thing but once it clicks its very good, the story from disc 2 onwards was excellent and all characters were developed very well. I also liked the whole guardian spirit thing initially I thought it would be a little silly but it is implemented very well particle at the end. Anyway a great game for anyone looking for an RPG that?s a little different.

I got this today, man is the voice acting ****e, even from the beginning of the attract video its utter mank. I've had to turn them off because I can't stand the characters talking, so I skip the text and miss whats going on

Now that I've finished RE4, I can go back to playing this now

(until Starfox or Wario Ware Touched appear!)

Currently arrived at the cake world as it is put... and still on disc 1. How far through would you say I am?

I finished this last week in about 35 hours. I thought it was okay but nothing special. I wanted to get it out of the way before I started MGS3 & RE4.

:Note to self, never play two RPGs in a row:

                                Anyway,

I can kinda see why this game recieved mixed reviews. The battle system needed some serious work imo. It was okay as your deck got bigger and dishing out more pair's & straight,s, but it gets very repetive fast. It needed more options to keep it fresh. I nearly considered giving up at the start because of the battles, so slow & boring.

I loved the the art work but only half of it was worth looking at. Nearly all of the indoor areas were bland, mixed with an awful colour palet. However, the other half is absolutly beautiful. The purple cloud fishing harbor was probably the best peice of art work I've ever seen in a game. I also loved the candy town and anuene (sp?). Some fantastic artwork here monolith.

The music was pretty nice but the voices, my god !!! (must kill Kalas & Lyude) really wrecked it, I switched them off at the start but was very frustrated that you could not switch the battle voices off.
Comments such as "woahhhhhhhhoo","is that alll" & the most anoying one of all from lyudel "at least I don't have to fight to ernestly" ahhhhhhhhhh kill him. Who hired these guys !!!!!

Not a bad game but not great. Battle system deffinatly needed more options though.
