So um, Mardigan lent me his DMC3 whilst he's in Mexico.
I read through the last few pages, seems to be the Hardcore DM3 guys left posting in here.
It took me about 10 attempts to kill that inital sub boss thing when you walk out the office, dont get me started on that Dog.
Any tips for a DMC3 Noob, whats the best attack mode , Gunslinger etc ?

I'm still a noob, don't worry lol. I've just got to mission 18 and discovered
I have to beat every single boss AGAIN! In 1 mission???? argh. However my 1st attempt at Cerberus and he didn't know what hit him... amazed it took me over an hour to beat first time around. Lost it at the horse so will have to do it all over again :-(
I found my feet with swordmaster and that's still my favoured style. I guess it depends how you play even as a noob, but I like having some real damage-dispensing abililties for moments of panic.

IIRC you don't have to beat all the bosses to proceed. I think it's Beowulf, Agni and Rudra and Cerberus you have to beat at the least to proceed. If you do beat all the bosses though you get a blue orb(I think).

@ Gerry Helmet, Basic Cerebus.
Go in with Trickster style, Ebony and Ivory & Rebellion equipped (which I think is all you will have available at this point).
With Trickster you can dart out of the way of his ice blasts and avoid falling shards that he drops from the ceiling (these are possibly the most annoying) - once you get used to his patterns after a bit of practice you should be able to simply roll out of danger allowing you to try other styles on him - I would give gunslinger a go next as bussin air raves on his heads is too cool. If he is set to freeze the ground (something he does once his life is low) then jump and stay airborne using the recoil of Ebony and Ivory or double jump of the walls at the side (the cheap way I first took him out), I presume you dont have Airhike yet.
You notice his heads are covered in ice? You need to get that stuff off so you can cause some serious damage. Don't be afraid to get up close and personal as he will signal before a charge or a paw swipe - jump out of the away of these. If he has charged he will then get dragged slowly back by his chains - get stuck into him as he's being pulled back. You can also shoot or chop away at one of his legs to get him to drop his head to the floor then go all out on it with Rebellion.
Basically if your not using Rebellion or dodging his attacks keep blasting away at him to get that ice off. The more you play him the more you will understand his patterns and the more you gonna be feeling the power of Dante
@ Darwock, I found my feet with Trickster, avoiding drama when it got a bit panic heavy. Complete opposite to your attacking styleLast edited by spagmasterswift; 13-06-2005, 14:09.

Alrighty! Cleared mission 18.. Cerberus gave me hell this time (after I kicked his ass no questions asked last time too!) but Beowulf... bwahahahahahah!
I can't believe I struggled so much against him the first time.. maybe it's just because I've gotten a bit more familiar with Nevan but Beowulf was toast! The only times he hit me was when he pulled out his shooty-feathers move (twice!!).. the rest of the time I was right up in his face giving him a thrashing... are these toned down versions of the bosses because that fight had me ready to quit last time!?

Nice going!
Beowulf's a big girl's blouse - simple as. Once you've got your tactics down the bosses are a complete walkover! The only difference with the 2nd version of Beowulf is that the pillars he knocks down arent so crazy in their positioning - you can stay in his face the whole time and be safe.
Have a go at getting a Royal Guard routine going against Beobitch - you can parry every single attack he does. You take massive damage off him by charging Release to LV3 via parries, then buss a Just Release in his back when he does "I Will Kill You!". Another gate for taking mass damage is on the 3rd punch of his standard 3 punch attack - you need to Just Release the 3rd punch so that Dante rips through it and Beoblouse's eye.
That's over half his energy gone per Release - you could kill him in 2 moves if you're THAT sick!Last edited by Saurian; 14-06-2005, 09:26.

On another note, have you guys been able to view those vids I've been posting? I ask because the yousendit servers have been playing up. If the vids aren't downloadable then I'm gonna have to use a diferent website for hosting them.

call me a johnny-come-lately if you like but only got this game on saturday.
Us version which i understand is harder than jpn or pal versions, spent over an hour in the first room learning swordmaster stuff.
Now dante is a little more powered up (stinger, air hike and ebony and ivory)
aiming to A grade it first time though then go back and special the missions.
loving the game to bits how did i ever sleep on it?
is there a quick and easy way to defeat the mission 2 boss? with reasonably basic swordmaster skills?
thanks to all on this forum to opening my eyes to a gem that i may not have played were it not for the likes of venom and saur and all the other posters in this thread, thanks guys

According to Saur who has both the JPN and US versions of the game the difficulty is the same. In the US version you have to buy continues so could be regarded more difficult in that sense. Thing is I never continue anyway!

The US version is not in any way different in difficulty to the other versions - the only thing they have changed from the Japanese to the overseas versions is the continue method. I have both versions and have compared everything from hits to kill enemy types to the damage taken off Dante - and it's all exactly the same through all difficulty settings.
Mission 2 boss with Swordmaster using your setup cannot be beaten REALLY quickly but there's a solid little method; slash at it with Rebellion till you get repelled, use that as a cue to roll out of the way, lock-on, Stinger back in then continue slashing till the next Repel. At this stage of the game Rebellion's basic 3 slash combo is pretty strong - so repeat that as your main attack.
Dante's straight up jump has loads of safe frames, when the boss disappears and charges at you you can avoid it by either jumping straight up or rolling out of the way (it doesnt look it, but jumping straight up is actually safer!). You can jump straight up timed fairly late so the boss looks like it goes through you - it's that safe!
