Hey Saurian keep posting man, watching your new Royal Guard vids made me want to play the game all the way through again. It is an amazing game. You shouldn't let people get to you. I would never of realised the potential in this game if it wasn't for saurians first play posts.

This has been a slow burner for me due to the poor timing on my part when I bought it (was in the midst of about 3/4 other titles !) but now I'm about ready to really bust it open.
Reached lev11 on Normal so far - Some Gunslinger, lots of Swordmaster and a *little* bit of Royal Guard - I find that going back and rattling levels on easy after busting them on Normal can be a good strategy for picking up what's going on - That and trips to the lab of course 8)

I'm up to what I estimate around 190 hours playtime and I'm STILL learning and still finding out more and more new stuff daily! I cant be bothered with all the hating - these games are too much fun.
calm down! it's not been my intention to offend the people, who fell in love with the game so much! i just posted my initial impressions with the game, which unfourtunately were not too positive to say the least. why can't you cope with that? i guess i'm in love with the Halo games as much as you are with DMC3. but this doesn't keep me from realizing its shortcomings and understanding why some people don't like to play Halo because of these issues!
@ Bleeders
it's not that it's kicking my ass that much! it's more the gameplay and design that i still have to adjust to - again! i loved Ninja Gaiden for its precise controls, Resident Evil 4 and God of War especially for their inital accessibility. these are features that i expected very much to be present in DMC3 - from the start!
@ Mardigan8
like i said, i loved the first Dante very much, the game is still in my collection. but DMC2 was so uninspiring and dull to me that i even didn't bother to go beyond the first few missions. sold it.
@ all
but thanks to your fabulous vids (great stuff, Saurian!!!) and overly positive comments on the game, i still wont give up on it! i promiseLast edited by Uli; 29-04-2005, 15:17.

Will we run a sweep on how long before Uli is back promoting his love for Dante??? Opening bets anyone??
Dont let the fact that a game is not instantly accessible to you put you off. Believe me and the rest of us when we say, the sense of reward for putting a bit of work in is immense, you wont be dissapointed if you choose to stick with it!!
I to loved Ninja Gaiden and at the time of playing it felt the combat was the best I had seen. But... then Dante swaggered back onto the horizon and swept Ryu aside like an old hooker. Gaiden had amazing visuals but when compared to DMC3 lacks true substance and atmosphere!! The story in DMC3 also rocks the box!!
IMO, DMC3 is the finest example of pure gameplay in the market right now, period. No daft frills, no buttering you up... just rock solid, kick ass, jaw on the floor GAMEPLAY.
Long may Dante's reign continue...

Originally posted by Uliholy moly! this is another game that's been so massively overhyped and overrated! i played the US version up to level 5 and i'm already beginning to loose any will and interest to go further in it.
the game has awful charcater design - young Dante is an arrogant, unpleasant bigmouth and the cutscene scripting is so bad i can't even laugh at them.
the music is a mix of gothic themes and horrible punk rock, also very repititive. setpieces are - so far - unimaginative and miles behind the first DMC game.
technically it's just an above average PS2 titel and far from outstanding. especially the low-res textures are extremly offputting. on top, the game is frustratingly difficult. there's no blocking moves and the controls are inaccurate.
maybe i've been playing too much Resindent Evil 4 and God of War in recent times, but i really can't see myself falling in love with Dante again any time soon!
He's stating what he feels about the game. It's a 1st play thread, and he doesn't like the game. I myself enjoy it, but I fully understand his point about it being a bit too difficult (especially with the awful PAL continue system I'm having to put up with).

Being a forum I dont think anybody who hangs out here is against people expressing their opinions...
Maybe we should have a seperate thread where peeps that have played beyond Mission 5 can chat about how great this game is and leave First Play for those who haven't got their heads round it yet?

but, however, neither do i think that my impressions about DMC3 are wrong nor that there's a definite wrong or a right about any game at all. i think in DMC3's case it's very much a question of everyone's personal taste according to story and character design. i guess even Saurian will find it hard to convince me to find young -bigmouth- Dante cool or likeable in any way!

nobody should be supposed to be giving a competent, full scope review in a First Play Thread, right? this is the reason i can't understand Saurian's harsh words! this Thread should leave room for initial emotions and, hence, human fallibility!
