The original 25 levels have een split into 40 or so

so atm the levels feel really short, being so used to the pc version its a bit disconcerting

You mean left stick look right stick move? Yeah you can map the controls that way but the A button is always set to jump so it's not quite perfect.

Just been playing co-op with my friend with me hosting (1mb NTL)

As I am hosting I wouldn?t get any lag, but he says its running fine, my character will skip a few feet some times? but other than that its perfect.

It is bloody good fun, the levels are mixed up a bit which puts you on edge as your not quite sure what is around the corner. If you die you restart at the beginning of the level and a backpack will appear where you died that gives you all your weapons back. Some rooms seem darker, so you really do need a guy with a torch and a guy with a gun.

We seem to be progressing quick, and it isn?t all that hard. Both of us has died once so far and I would say we are 30% or 40% in.

Been playing the PAL verison all day yesterday, I think it's brilliant. It's gor(e)geous aswell. I've not played the PC version so the bits that are missing don't bother me it's just nice to have a game where you don't have to think too much, just walk around and shoot scarey stuff, very much like the original in that respect. The only small niggles I have are that the PDA takes a little too long to load; other than that the load times are surprisingly small, also the fact you can't have a gun and torch out at the same time is a little weird.
I've got the CE version so gave the original doom a quick blast, I'd almost forgotten how annoying the music is!

I'm looking forward to the Resurrection of Evil pack, which I think is out very soon on PC. Interestingly there is an interview with some id guy on IGN where he says they may bring the expansion to Xbox through a Live download. Presumably a premium one, but also a MASSIVE one. Would really gobble up HD space on that tiny little drive MS fit as standard.
aye i have got said latest patch, but its not PROPER widescreen, everything at the edges is really scretched, its fish-eye lens like!

as for ROE, whilst i have it, im not playing it yet, because im waiting for the 1.3 patch and its glorious support of audigy2 EAX. 7.1 baby! and with all effects done in hardware, a few extra fps on top!

Ah, you may need to edit your doomconfig.cfg. You'll need to do 3 things.

                        Add the lines

                        seta r_customHeight "????"
                        seta r_customWidth "????"

Obviously add your resolution of choice in there! I use 1680x1050.

Then change a few lines to the following

                        seta r_mode "-1"

This tells Doom to take notice of the custom res, and..

                        seta r_aspectRatio "2"

This will change the rendering to 16:10 W/S monitor aspect. If you're running 16:9, then I think you need aspect "1". Aspect "0" should be 4:3 regular.

I got stuck into Resurrection of Evil this morning. Really good stuff. There are two major additions, the alien artefact heart which slows down time (as in Monolith's F.E.A.R.), and the Half Life 2 inspired 'Grabber' gun. Both are great and add a lot to the game. Grabbing Imp fireballs mid flight and throwing them back is fantastic fun!

It's more demanding on my hardware too. Doom 3 was a rock solid 60fps on max res, but this one is dropping frames when things get busy. The environments are noticeably more detailed, plenty more polys in there. And wider/bigger too. Looks very tasty.

Wonder if they really can release it as downloadable content for XB. It comes on one CD and unpacks to just over 500mb. One hell of a download for sure. Although I guess with the lower res textures and general stripping out of detail they would need to do to get it to run well enough the size could come down a fair bit.

I picked this one up yesterday (got the Collectors Edition) and I have to say I'm impressed. I didn't think it would look anywhere near as good as it did on the PC, but it looks, and runs, better than it did on my computer.

The controls work well, and it's nice to see that the ingame interface hasn't been changed all that much, but the weapons do have the same rather weak sound that they did in the PC version.

Spent a few hours playing Doom and Doom II as well, and they've converted surprisingly well. I too think they may have had their speed increased, but that doesn't matter, they're still as fun to play as they ever were. One of my mates was around watching me play, and he commented on just how hypnotic it was watching me run around blasting all the nasties.

I've not had a chance to take it on Live yet, but I'm gonna give it a go as soon as I can. If anyone fancies a Co-op game give me a shout.

That would be good if they did release Resurrection of Evil as downloadable content, but obviously I think people would have to pay for it. They may even release a disc at a later stage with it on, a la Bungie and the new Halo 2 maps.

I was using headphones on this game in the pitch black last night (3am-ish)

I recommend it, listening to the place creek and machines humming builds the atmosphere so much more.
