i'm just off to blockbuster to pick this up, is it worth getting the collectors edition for an extra fiver? Help me spend money!

I'd say it was definitely worth getting. It comes in a nice tin box like the Collectors Edition of Halo 2, and the extras pretty good. Ultimate Doom and Doom II are worth the fiver in themselves.

Second that, the "limited edition" is well worth the extra few bob. Nice that it's similar to the Halo 2 box as well. Was quite surprised that its just on one disk. I was expecting a similar setup to Halo 2 with the added value bits being on an extra disk.

Anyway, played this on Live earlier on. Quick deathmatch game. Was laggy as hell unfortunately. Match lasted 25 minutes though! Quite enjoyable with the lights going on and off.

Does anyone know... there was a computer and I saw one going using it so after dispatched him I had a go at it. Basically it said "Activating Generator". Any idea what purpose that serves? Can't remember the name of the map unfortunately
The computer was in a big room with a ramp behind you and to the right (as you face the computer). You can also exit the room via a hall to the left (again as you face the computer). There was also an entrance via a ventilalation hatch...

I think the room you mean generates a mega health sphere after a period of time, takes about 15 secs

I haven't played the PC version, so I can't compare, but so far the graphics are pretty impressive.

I read that the footsteps and gun sound effects weren't up to much. I can deal with the footsteps and I haven't played much, so have only acquired the handgun and it does sound pretty lame. I hope the other weapons sound better.

When it's dark it's dark and you need to use the torch.

It's a creepy game and I haven't encountered any major creatures yet.

I found it stops getting all that creepy once you've started to pick up the big guns, simply because I have the big guns and the monsters (at the minute) don't.

Maybe it will start to get creepy again later on.

Okay, I appear to be stuck.

I'm at the bit where you have to use the service lift to get to the upper control room, but I cant seem to figure out where to go or what to do. I 've been to all the stations for that little lift thing and I feel like I've looked everywhere, but I obviously haven't. I bet it's really simple and I'm over thinking it.

                  Any help?

I figured it out last night.

Wander round the area and collect everything you can find (there should be a few health packs, some ammo, and a PDA. Grab all that then head to Service Lift Station 1. Manually turn the lift left once, then move forward to the end then turn right. Move forward twice and you should be at the intersection with the compartment that held a zombie marine. Turn the lift round so you can get out and grab his gear and a few goodies. Now get back on the lift and raise it up to to reveal where you should go. You shouldnt even have to turn the lift round or anything.

                      Hope that helps.

I love it, I've played it friday with a mate of mine on co-op from 22.00 - 04.30, co-op is excellent fun, saturday I've played it again from 23.00 - 04.00 on singleplayer that also was great fun. it looks and sounds absolutely great, the multi-player though is a bit lame compared to Halo2, but the co-op is excellent !

had my first go with Doom 3 yesterday. played a bit of the campaign and then gave the co-op mode a 5 hours nonstop run. played along with US guys only and haven't encounterd any serious lag. the game simply plays fantastic in co-op!

from a technical point of view i'm a bit disappointed. i can pretty much live with the reduced polys, the downgraded textures and the absence of bump-mapping. but at least i had expected to experience a more sophisticated lighting and physics-engine than in Riddick, which was released over a year ago!

the weapons not only lack sound but also force feedback.

i really wonder what kind of download content lies ahead for us. hopefully this is some singleplayer stuff too.

I played this again for a bit last night and the 5.1 sound track really is top notch and is a big part of the game.

I was crawling through some sort of maintenance tunnel and directly behind me was the eerie sound of a what sounded like a woman breathing, so I turned around and there was nothing there.
