so, after my previous post i put it back on and... pffft. it's just a ghost train, innit

like most western games it relies on shock, rather than going for the slow burn and creeping you out. now i'm tearing through it and wondering why the hell i was spooked before. having one or two enemies come at you isn't as bad as having a roomful - and it lessens the impact somewhat - maybe i would have preferred loads of goons jumping and crawling out from everywhere to build up a real sense of desperation and tension instead of the odd one popping up and saying 'BOO!'

now i know what to expect, i'm quite enjoying it. but the weapons are weedy and have nowhere near the kind of punch i was expecting for a Doom game. other than that, it looks great and the sounds design is spot on. a nice change of pace from LEGO Star Wars.

Some sections and rooms were cut from the Xbox version and I think the online co-op mode shortens some sections too.

I thought this was the case, but some think otherwise in the Xbox pal-60 questions thread.

What's the difference with this game between 50Hz and 60Hz?

I started it, but haven't finished it. It was ?9.99 at Gamestation when it was first released.

Does anybody who's played the XBox 'Resurrection Of Evil' add-on know if you can turn the music off on the original Dooms???? I originally played them on the PS1 (with the great music) but the original PC soundtrack is ****! and totally inappropriate. Silence, especially in this case, would be extremely golden...

I haven't played it in a while, but iirc the PAL version certainly runs in 480p (and hence 60hz).

I have owned both versions of the game.

On my old CRT, it was very apparent that it was a 50Hz game, it was very flickery and the frame rate was much worst than the NTSC version. the game was optimised to run at 480 lines and the extra lines to be drawn (576) in the pal version resulted in a struggling frame rate.

Thanks to everyone in this and the other thread for helping me.

I will try my PAL version in 480p.

I got the US version for my PAL xbox and saw no resizing of the screen, so it still seems to be running in 50hz. Why is this?

My UK PAL Doom 3 doesn't work on the 360 with a VGA cable due to being 50Hz only, so is the US NTSC version definitely 60Hz and does it work on a UK PAL 360?

Does it work on a PAL 360 though, because I've heard the BC updates are regional?

Does anybody have an NTSC Doom they can try on a PAL 360 please?
